The Sick at the Nat ional Capital Are Progressing Pro-gressing Favorably Notes From tho Committee Rooms and From the liepartments. Washington, March 5. In the house a letter from the actingepretary of the treasury treas-ury was received and v-M this morning stating that 500,000 woul((e required during dur-ing the fiscal year endiugljne HO, 1893, for the purpose of collecting h,n preparing the government exhibit for thiSVorld's Columbian Colum-bian exposition. A resolution was adopted directing the committee on private laud claims to make inquiry into the Maxwell laud grant iu New Mexico. A joint resolution was reported from the committee changing the dates of the beginning begin-ning of the ending of the terms of congressmen, congress-men, changing the time on which the annual sessions of cotigreSs shall begin aud the date of the commencement of the term of presi. dent and vice-president. The urgent deficiency hill passed without amendment. A bill appropriating, as a deficiency, $150,0u0 for carrying on the work of the bureau bu-reau of animal industry, and $10,000 for experiment ex-periment in the production of ctigar was taken up. Springer's Condition. Washington, March 5. The condition of Congressman Springer still continues favorable, favor-able, though there is but little visible improvement im-provement this morning. The patient is still very much prostrated, and the greatest care is being exercised to prevent a relapse. Dr. Vincent of Springfield, 111., Springer's family physician, arrived this morning, and was immediately called In consultation with the other physicians. At the conclusion of the consultation and after an examination of the patient, Dr. Vincent said: "The condition of Springer is very much improved, and while I might say he is practically prac-tically out of danger, yet as a matter of fact a man is not out of dangor in a case of this kind until lie has passed the stage where a relapse is impossible. It wil! probably be several days before Springer is passed that point. He Is so completely prostrated now that very little imprudence or a slight mistake mis-take would cause a relapse that might prove fatal. itlaiue's illness. Washington, March 5. Secretary Blaine has been quite sick for several days past aud the following official statement as to his condition is given out at the state department depart-ment today: "Secretary Blaine is a victim of grip. He was taken Wednesday quite suddenly and severely. Ills fever was high Thursday and Friday. He is much better this morning and hopes to be out in a few days." |
