Show THE LITTLE RAILROAD WAR. " The I'uiun I'aolllc May I. rate to Gould but to no Othe-f. Chicago, Jan. 10. The Kock Island road has received ollicial notice from the Union Pacific, abrogating the track and bridge agreement. The notice says these agree limits are in excess of the powers and statutory authority of the L'uion Pacilic. An odicial of the Rock Island, speaking speak-ing of the matter tonight, said that the Hock Island is content to leave the question of validity of contract to the courts.' The Union. 1'acitie, he says, now deny power to make a lease, but it is a well known fact that while Gould was a director of that road severa years ago, it leased the Central branch nearly 400 miles, to the Missouri Pa cific, receiving no rentals, whatever and the Union Pacific keeping the road in repair. Furthermore that the lease is still in force, yet nobody bears a suggestion sug-gestion from Jay Gould' that it is ille-, gal. |
