According to figures compiled in "Recreation" the year book of the national recreation of America, our last years program was surpassed only by Salt Lake, Ogden and Prov-o. We had a program 3 as large as Ogden, a city of 45000 population and which boasts of six playg-rounds. Not bad for a city of around 3200 population. The playground teams use a very unique system of. umpiring. Each Player on the batting team has to take his turn umpiring. In this way each player umpires against his team and his teammates, but there is very little Umpire-baitin- g and all decisions are accepted. Pete Badovinatz and Joe Bade-vlnat- z, Rufus Garcia and Paul Gar-cia are brother battery mates for their clubs. The former pair playi-ng for West's Furniture and the latter for Copperton. ' Gcmmcl Rallies To Beat Provo Behind the expert pitching of Don Harrison, who relieved Scott In the third Inning, the local Gem-mell nine overcame a 3-- 0 lead to defeat Provo here Sunday by the score of 64. With two men down in the last of the fifth, Pearson, second base-man for Gemmell, singled. He was followed by Webb, who collected a three bagger, scoring Pearson. Then Doty Bush, hard-hittin- g first baseman, came to the plate and planted one over the fence to score Webb and tied the score at three all. The score remained tied up to the last of the eigfclh. At this point Bush collected his second home run of the day. He was followed to the plate by Kastellic. who struck-ou- i Les Sumnicht drew a walk. Billy Johnson singled, ad-vancing Sumnicht to second. Dally Brown, who had gone hitless all day, came to the platter and knock-ed out a two bagger, scoring Sum-nicht and Johnson.. Sundays win places Gemmell In a tie for third place with Provo: If the local club can continue the brand of ball they played Sunday they- - will undoubtedly give the rs ft good run for first place before the schedule is played up. Loses to Pinney The Pinney Beverages handed the U. S. Mines a 11-- defeat here last Saturday afternoon. Ronnie Peacock, Pinney hurler, allowed the U. S. men eleven scattered hits, while Frank Reading allowed twelve hits well bunched by the Pinney crew. Home runs seemed to be the or-der of the day. Tedesco, Butler, Morr and Reading all collected cir-cuit blows. Butler, U. S. catcher, came out of a batting slump to get a home run, a triple, and two sin-gles from four trips to the plate. An unusual thing about Saturdays game was the placing of relief hit-ter- s- In the place of Zaccaria and Vecchio. In previous years these two boys have been at the top in hitting. But for some unknown rea- -' son they have been in a slump practically all season. .
