Show 43 Years Is a "Long Time" It was just about 43 years ago in April, 1893 to be exact that a young man, who had been born and reared in New York state, came, to Bingham Canyon with the idea In mind of staying here a short while until he had saved up a "grub-stake" and could move on westward. The young man was Charles E. Adder-ley, Adder-ley, and he is still in Bingham one of our most respected and best loved citizens. The story of Charley's long residence resi-dence in the camp would make a fascinating history. In the 43 years I he has seen Bingham rise and fall; ' has witnessed its gradual growth from a small "rough and ready" camp to a modern community with all the up-to-date improvements of this "gasoline ige"" Charley was attracted to Bingham Bing-ham in 1893 by the offer of a position posi-tion in W. J. Strlckley's mercantile establishment. He had worked for a short time in Park City after leaving leav-ing New York state. .The Strickley store was located on Main street just opposite from where the Ad-derleys Ad-derleys have resided for many years. The storv of Charley Adderley's success in Bingham is well known by all. A few years after his arrival arri-val here he founded the Bingham Mercantile company, and has been at the helm of this large institution ever since. His faith in Bingham has never faltered, and today he is one of the best boosters that the camp has. "When I first came to Bingham," Charley told the Bulletin reporter this week, "There were fellows here who claimed that the camp was all worked out and that Bingham Bing-ham was 'done for.' I have lived here for 43 years now and believe that there is just as great a future I for Bingham as there ever was." |
