Show '1 1 I I Home Brew I : The Weekly Ravings . f of Ye Editor 1 I The county administration cer- I tainly believes in ignoring every-1 every-1 thing in the county except Salt Lake f City- For example, we do not know I of any newspaper or printing estab- lishment outside of the metropolitan area that receives even a "smell" of the county printing. All printing and publication work and believe ; us, there is plenty of it goes to the city printers. The county auditor s annual re-: re-: port, a lengthy legal notice, . was handed out recently to the Salt Lake Times, a tabloid publication near the courthouse, at their own price, for apparently the only reason rea-son that it is a Democratic organ. As an "organ" it wouldn't even make a good "Jews-harp." Any one of the newspapers in the county outside of Salt Lake City would have printed this notice for less money. But why speak of anything so archaic as "saving the taxpayers' ! money" in Utah? The delinquent tax list, a still more juicy legal publication, was handed on a platter to the Salt Lake Telegram last week, evidently to placate them for not getting the auditor's report. The non-metropolitan newspapers, any one of which is a real newspaper news-paper compared with the Salt Lake ; Times, are getting mighty tired of being completely ignored by the county administration, for it Is a matter of "taxation without representation," repre-sentation," and the politicians who are now in the saddle at the county court house need not look for any support in this direction in the coming com-ing election. Let the office-holders look to the Salt Lake Times for political aid. The Murray Eagle, The Mldvale Sentinel, the Magna Times, the Oar-field Oar-field Leader and the Bingham Bulletin Bul-letin intend to support to the limit candidates who will give them a share of the county business. O The "mining revival" is continuing continu-ing in many areas. New properties are btag developed, old ones are again being worked after years ot inaction. It should be remembered that no industry has a greater interest in fair tax, legislative and labor policies poli-cies than mining. They are absolutely absolu-tely essential not only to the pro- gress of the industry, but to its very existence. The future of mining, in brief, is largely in the hands of the nation's legislators and theirs is a responsibility responsi-bility that cannot be lightly regarded. regard-ed. O We stole this one from a trade Journal: 'The victory of baseball team is not due merely to the sterling play of the pitcher, or the shortstop or the first baseman. "Other elements ele-ments enter in the trainer who put the players into condition, the manager who coached them, the owner who paid their salaries, even the crowd who paid entrance money and thus made the game renum-erative. renum-erative. "So it is in business. Each member, mem-ber, whether he be owner, manager or employee, that he is but part of the whole and that not only on his efficiency as an individual but also on his efficiency as a cooperative unit depends the true progress and success of the entire business." O The Typographic Error The typographic error is a slippery thing and sly; You can hunt till you are dizzy. bul somehow will get by. Till the forms are off the presses, it is strange how still it keeps; It shrinks down in a corer, and it never stirs nr npfins That typographic error, too small for human eyes, Till the ink is in the paper, when it grows to mountain size. The boss, he stares with horror, then he grabs his hair and groans; The copy reader drops his head upon up-on his hands and moans. The remainder of the issue may be clean as clean can be But that typographic error is the only thing you see. Author unknown. |
