Show Taxes the Burden of Common People "Taxes little or great, are the sweat of common folks," said the Portland Oregonlan In a recent editorial. edi-torial. Becoming increasingly aware of their burdens, the small property owner and taxpayer has cast about for 8ome relief. Prospects of exemp tion with heavier taxation of the large property owners and corporations corpo-rations to cover deficits have been considered. The theory that it is possible for the average taxpayer to have more, work less and pay few-eer few-eer taxes if what was were divided around in the name of social Justice becomes more and more attractive to the taxpayer. That this is nothing more than a wishful fallacy and would fall far short of tax solution for taxpayer is shown by study of an excerpt from a recent edition of the Industrial News Review, which says in part: "Authoritative surveys have shown sho-wn that if government took all the net Income of persons In the higher income brackets plus all the net income in-come of American Corporations, revenue re-venue would still fall short of meeting meet-ing outgo." Even If It were possible for the taxpayer to find relief by further and heavier taxation of corporations, corpora-tions, the common people would still shoulder the larger part of the burden. Whenever you buy an article arti-cle you pay most of the proportionate proportion-ate share of the hundred and one tuxes of the producer, the manufacturer, manufac-turer, the transporter .the Insurer. The only relief to the taxpayer is reduction in the cost of government govern-ment with immediate refection In powering of taxes. The greatest beneficiary would be the common people, the person of small means and small businesses. |
