Show WILL MILL OPEN UP A NEW COUNTRY there is a great scope of country in southeastern nevada and northwestern arizona rich in its deposits of the precious and baser metals and in its agricultural resources that will be greatly benefited by the building of the san pedro los angeles salt lake railroad now so rapidly nearing completion in the sections mentioned until recently so remote from civilization so destitute of transportation facilities and about which so little has been really known there are mum numerous erous mining districts so rich in their mineral wealth that the wonder is that they have been so long neglected while there are little valleys and well watered nooks that remind one of the many favored spots in an california where the almond grows and where the choicest of fruits tempt the appetite of the weary and hungry traveler to afew the existence of these resources in this distant and isolated country have been known for many years but as they have been shut in from the outside world by such barriers as the mighty chasm of the canyon of the colorado river and by bj hundreds of miles of desert to the north i west and south these s sections might have been heaven or the garden of eden and yet have been as unknown to the great throbbing active business centers of the united states as is the interior of africa B but ut as stanley and livingston penetrated into the wilds wild s of africa and threw light into its centuries of virtual night so the san pedro road in its course from salt lake to los angeles t will open to the world a new region that is rich in its possibilities and from which men of foresight and enterprise will because of this avenue of traffic and business derive great wealth through mining agriculture stock raising and kindred pursuits tor for forty years or more southeastern nevada has contributed to the worlds supply of imperishable wealth some great mines are located in this region but the distance to transportation facilities has been so great that only the very richest of their output could stand the long wagon haul to market and still pay a profit to their owners the same obstacle stood in the way of mine and mill equipment so that properties the equal of our silver king of our centennial eureka in the abundance and richness of their ores have been obliged to remain idle while hundreds of lesser mines which would be counted as bonanzas it if located in some of our nearby and popular camps have been held for many years by those fully acquainted with their worth and value until such time as the wheels of progress should give an all steel outlet to the marts of the world and to the centers of trade and commerce this long hoped for outlet is soon to become a matter of fact a reality and now that the san pedro road has reached as far south as moapa and is rapidly extending its line beyond this point with every reason to believe that it will soon connect with the other end of the line building north from california this region is being accorded a great deal of attention and interest at the hands of well informed mining men m en and investors old mines so full of promise comise in the past are being resurrected and will soon be in condition to make regular shipments of fine ore to the salt lake smelters shelters sm elters prospects of promise are being developed districts tributary to the new road are being thoroughly prospected by a small army of men and new life and activity is being infused into localities which for many years past have been the homes of the howling coyote the timid deer the mountain lion the bear and the antelope in fact as a result of the building of this railroad to the coast a new empire is being added to the stars and stripes and an opportunity will be given the miner the prospector and the investor to explore and develop new sources of wealth while a restricted reservation as it were is being thrown open to the world that is as prolific in its attractions as is any of the indian reservations which people have been wild to enter and settle for a score ot of year or more the importance to salt lake of the corn com of the san pedro road cannot well W I 1 be est estimated 1 m a ted in dollars a an and cents it t means a great deal in the way of giving an all outlet to the coast to the seaboard but it means as much more in the bringing of a great scope of country rich in its resources into touch with the outside world |
