section and locations are being filed daily W D of ogden who is interested in the great talt salt lake promontory asphalt company states that his people are preparing to put down a well on its holdings at the promontory not far from the well of the utah oil liquid As chale company mr who was in salt lake a few days ago is enthusiastic over the future outlook for this section and predicts that in time it will take rank as one of the greatest oil and asphalt producing sections of the united states he is interested also in the utah nevada min ing company operating in newfoundland district on the north side of the lake world work is progressing finely in the development of the companas comp anys property from which some very fine gold copper ore is being taken for shipment i ogden people who are interested in the property of the utah oil liquid asphalt company operating on the promontory are much elated over the encouraging showing that has attended operations at this point from jesse J driver of ogden who was in the city a few days ago it was learned that the well has attained a depth of feet the oil and asphalt zone was encountered at a depth of about feet and the well shows about thirty five feet of oil and asphalt the product going about 60 per cent in oil leaving a residue of asphalt that is nearly pure the company is thinking of putting in an eight inch steel casing when a boiler will be installed at the well and steam introduced into the well by which means the oil and asphalt will be so reduced in its consistency that it can be pumped into barrels the promontory field is attracting a great deal of attention among oil men at the present time C A dorn of evanston wyoming tle the western estern representative of the oil well sup ply company of pittsburg pa who was in salt lake recently informs the mining review that on the dinst the american con oil company of evanston brought in a new well in the spring valley district that gives every promise of being a great producer this is known as well no 4 on section 14 the oil bearing sand was struck at a depth of feet and the bit has penetrated the oil measures for a distance of sixty feet the oil rising in the casing for feet or more this is easily a fifty barrel well although wyoming papers claim more the oil is of the finest quality and has a specific k gravity of 45 there are twelve wells around evanston that can be made productive as soon as arrangements are perfected for the marketing of their product mr dorn is enthusiastic over the outlook for the spring valley field and states that its success is virtually assured he has a stock of well drilling machinery supplies casing and tools at spring valley twenty miles from evanston from which he can make shipments on orders at a days notice he has been busy of late examining the farmington Farming toi toil oil fields a few miles above salt lake and as he has spent many years in the oil fields of the united states he is an expert in this line whose opinion is of value gazette reno nev A A bass one of tono practical miners has just returned from fallon he left with the chamber of commerce a bottle I 1 containing a sample of the black oil sand in which oil was discovered in the R L douglas well mr bass says he saw a barrel of oil hoisted and he left shortly after the sensational strike was made the well is only forty five feet deep the oil is mingled with a black mucky formation that resembles peat mr bass has been in beaumont texas and says the formation and contour of the country greatly resembles that of the texas oil regions other wells were started years ago at fallen and similar formation was struck causing the well diggers to cease work col Grandel meyer who showed the oil sand to a gazette reporter said that in his opinion there are a number of lofall localities in this state that he has examined that are favorable for both oil and coal one district in particular shows outcroppings outcrop pings of coal for a distance of forty miles and evidences of the slates and sands carrying oil in other sections of the united states mr douglas feels greatly elated over the strike that has been made and is installing a power boring apparatus and will continue to sink in hope of striking a gusher |
