Show EXAMINING BONANZAS AT PIOCHE record pioche nev the record duly recorded in its last issue the arrival of prof G W maynard charles of and associates of new york for the purpose of examining the P C and other mining properties in and around pioche little was known at that time ot their real mission or thought of the importance of their investigation this was due exclusively to the fact that several other mining engineers had during the last twelve years appeared here for the same purpose their efforts in making the examination consisting virtually of wise looks and hasty departures that the examina tion now being conducted by maynard and of will be thorough is conceded by everyone here familiar with their movements their work up to date consists of examining the day and bristol mines and such portions of the meadow valley and raymond ely accessible to them today no 3 on the meadow valley started up to accommodate the examination of these properties and we are informed will be continued in action until prof maynard satisfies himself pro or con whether these mines have been worked out since his last examination here fourteen years ago this we feel he is not only competent but determined to do but that the mines have not been worked to any considerable sid erable extent during this time every permanent inhabitant of this district well knows nine men are assisting these gentlemen in the examination cleaning out closed excavations cavat ions and timbering dangerous passages which ch have not been entered for several years it is proposed to explore all these old mines including the famous black bead the manner in which the work proceeds induces the belief that this will be accomplished and that prof maynards maynardi Mayn ards examination will be thorough and fair the examination is being made in the interest of new york parties and the local public here is indebted to col B E F freudenthal of this place for his persistency in inducing these preliminary conditions who is also superintending Super intending the opening of the different passages to the different mines THE YUBA EAST mention was made last week and the week previous of the strike of cook and lloyd on the yuba east mining claim just across the summit of meadow valley vallebo street the disposition of this paper being tr to report actual facts rather than V to r enthuse over mineral indications ii little atle was said compared with the importance of the strike it may be said for the information of those who are not familiar with the conditions of this camp that this is one of a property which has laid idle here for years and which was forfeited to the government on account of failure to perform annual assessment ses work on the 1st ast of january this property was relocated by these gentlemen and work prosecuted upon running a crosscut cross cut thirty feet from the east drift of the pacific tunnel into a dyke a small smail streak of high grade ore characteristic of the early ore of pioche was encountered another crosscut cross cut from the same drift about feet east developed an eighteen inch streak of ounce ore carrying 50 per cent lead and 12 gold values per ton since that time drifting and stripping the ore has continued with the result that thirty inches of ore equally as high grade as mentioned shows in the face As between the two cross cuts not to consider the east end which has not been prospected the ore shoot is feet along the ledge and taking an infallible rule occurring in the yuba adjoining ground on the west developed 1300 feet in depth makes this more than a net million dollar shoot of ore the idea prevailing that pioche has been worked out is bradu gradually i ally being refuted bythe men who actually dig it is consequently readily conceived by those here who know the facts thae that pioche will take care of RAUL itself |
