Show latest concerning oil 01 1 strike at fallon B BY Y A J MOORE fallon nevada may 13 the local excitement ci cit ement following the bringing in of the fallon fallen oil gas companas Comp anys well on april has subsided so far as the crowds around the brokers offices is concerned the dri drifters lers have gone back to their respective spec tive wells and the stock speculators are now betting as to which company will bring in the next well nearly every company in the district has advanced the price of its stock it cannot be determined for a week or ten days as to just what the flow of the fallon oil gas well will be so far the one par particular ticul ar point determined is that oil does live in the fallon formation As to in what quantities has yet to be developed the fact that a commercial oil well exists in nevada is sufficient basis on which to pin ones faith that others will be brought in and some day a field will be opened that may rival any other in the united states conditions at discovery well work is progressing as fast as possible under conditions at the fallon oil gas companas Comp anys discovery well at first they lacked 8 inch casing the big 4 oil company came to their rescue and loaned the casing and needed tools this well was drilled with a rotary and progressed without casing the hole was only six inches in diameter and the first move was to ream this to admit eight inch casing this was done to a depth of seventy five feet the 8 inch casing has been landed and cemented this job was completed wednesday afternoon ter noon one ton of cement was used in setting the casing this will have to stand three or four days then 6 inch will be lowered and landed at the next water flow that will have to be cemented and time allowed to set even though this be a twenty five or fifty barrel well and that oil is not flowing is not surprising under conditions only those ignorant of oil wells would expect it first the revolutions of a rotary presses back the oil sand and closes the pores materially teri ally retarding the oil flow then there is a water pressure of feet standing in the well also all the dirt loosened in reaming out the well to enlarge to eight inches settles to the bottom of the hole when the water is bailed baided out this loose dirt removed and the oil sands is reamed to loosen it up then and not until then will we know the capacity of this the discovery well of nevada it is possible also that the well will be shot to develop it to its full flow weaver adds to crew J P branley arrived friday with an additional dit ional crew for the weaver oil company this well is down feet and drilling is suspended while an 84 booc derrick is being erected this was found necessary as 1012 inch casing is being used A columbia rig is on this ground and while the rig is capable of going to great depth the overhead rig that came with the drill did not have the carrying capacity required by a long string of heavy casing mr branley will remain here two or more weeks to see that nothing delays the work on occasions he has shipped in tons of material by express in fact over a ton of supplies is now on the way from los angeles by express the big 4 oil company is working sixteen hours a day they are now down feet and have passed through two water stratas and on tuesday ran into a quicksand that came up in the casing fifty feet before it could be mudded budded and driven back W B nichols sons the fiscal agents for the big 4 have secured a government lease on large acreage of the indian reservation about ten miles northeast of here they have incorporated the indian lands petroleum company to which company the lease has been transferred mr nichols is now on the coast and has bought a standard rig for the new company churchill installing heavy rig the new heavy rig for the churchill county oil gas company is expected daily it has now been on the road over a week the fallon fallen pioneer is drilling a water well work was suspended on the oil well at a depth of feet the wheeler oil syndicate encountered a small seepage of oil a few days ago but soon passed through it hot water has also been struck and that shut off work will be resumed utley wedge and L D vorce consulting engineers of new york city spent over one week testing the potash deposits in the dixie valley these deposits are controlled by the humbolt potash corporation of new york and fallon fallen it is stated by george E porter that their report will be most favorable and the development work will soon begin mr porter has a star rig on the way in for use by the carson sink oil company |
