Show COAL MINING IN ALASKA the Matan suka coal field in alaska is just now of special in etrest because it is tributary to the government t railroad and 4 because of the coal mining developments carried on by the department of the interior through the alaskan engineering commission the united states geological survey of the department of the interior has therefore issued in its bulletin E a paper by theodore chapin entitled mining alining in developments in the Matan suka coal field mr chapin is in charge of the branch office of the geological survey at anchorage alaska and is actively cooper co oper abing with the alaskan engineering commission om in the development of these mines his report is part of the geological surveys regular annual account of mining in alaska and is based on several weeks field wort work done at different times in the summer and fall of 1918 and on an intimate knowledge of the mining and prospecting that were done in that year the report includes brief description of the general geology of 01 t the he coal field a statement of the results ol of tests and analyses of the coal a detailed account of the mining and prospecting done in 1918 and descriptions of the geologic features at the mines and maps of areas guear nea them as well as many sections showing the geologic relations of the coal beus beds the report is supplemental to the ore general accounts of the geology and coal of 0 the Matan suka valley that have already alread been published by the geological survey the same bulletin contains also a short abor paper by mr chapin entitled lode devel da in the willow creek district aristr which is the customary brief annual sw state of ment of the developments of the year the gold lode mines of that district |
