Show sensate sensational onal 0 oil 11 boom strikes osage wyoming byomin on oil the day of march just sixty days ago osage in weston county wyoming was nothing more than a signal watering tank station on the burlington railroad today according to those who have been on the ground there has sprung up a hustling bustling oil town with all lines of business represented of to buildings the only lines of business which have heretofore signaled the starting of a wild and woolley western boom town which are lacking in osage are the saloon and gambling house an oil boom of cyclonic proportions is said to be sweeping the country about osage and a local man who has been all through the boom days of goldfield and other western mining camps declares that the osage oil boom promises to eclipse them all H J hefferan a geologist and oil expert of los angeles and son of col H G hefferan so well known in utah through gil his connection with the big sni smelling smelting sm elting and mining interests in utah several years ago s stopped off in salt lake a few hours last saturday on his way back after a trip into the field he stated that while there had not been enough drilling done to establish the future productiveness of the field he was satisfied that it would turn out big offered for a lease 1 I went over there said mr hefferan to the mining review in despones res pones to a wire ire from a los angeles friend who said come on this is another montello 1 having reference of course to the big oil field out of los angeles I 1 obeyed my friends junction injunction and was lucky enough to land in the field in time to secure a lease on acres of state owned land about three miles northwest of osage and one and one half miles off the railroad and about one mile from what is known as the adams well the first gusher brought in I 1 am now on MY y way home to secure two drilling rigs and will return to the field within ten days or two weeks just to give you an idea of the e way things are moving over there I 1 vill say that I 1 was offered for my lease ease before I 1 left st clair oil buys adams well mr Ilef hefferan feran stated also that the st clair bir oil il crowd had bought up the adams possessions sessions and with the midwest mid west and other of the big well known tio oil corpora snaking ng a wild scramble for acreage exciter road line nent was growing hourly the rail already is crowded owned with trains taking in drilling equipment ment building ma clair etc and when he left camp the st baui company had twenty nty five carloads of ament and materials on the road aroln the standpoint endpoint nd point of accessibility access ability the field is an ideal one in which to operate the burlington railroad runs right through it and the contour of the field being level and rolling the expense of getting equipment and supplies in is comparatively negligible li it is what I 1 would term a poor mans field said mr hefferman after the big concerns have landed everything obtainable there will still be plenty of room for the modest operator nothing has yet happened that would prove a guide to the extent of the field the country looks the same for great distances across the great that describes the region location of the new field the new town of osage is located about fifteen or sixteen miles northwesterly along the burlington from newcastle in the same county not far from the south dakota line and the twenty or thirty shallow wells that tha t have existed in the region for years and which have supplied oil to the homestake Home stake gold mining alining company for many years past have always heretofore been referred to as being in the newcastle field none of these shallow wells according to report were ever sunk deeper than or feet and it remained for the adams crowd of alliance nebraska to drill the first well to the deeper sands they began operations last december with a star rig on march the well had attained a depth of 1335 feet when the oil commenced to flow it is said that this well now is fi flowing at the rate of better than barrels a day that the oil shows a baume gravity test of 39 and is a fine paraffin base product worth over ever 3 a barrel this is the discovery that thai has caused all the excitement cit ement begins at base of the black hills the field begins said a returned salt laker a few days ago where the swell forming the base of the black hills begins and it stretches away to the west and northwest for how far no one yet is able to even guess around the section where the old shallow wells were sunk a long nog back raise exists the shallow wells all were sunk on one side of this ridge or roll the adams gusher was brought in on the opposite side of this swell and it is around and out from there where the hustling for ground now is taking place the adams well development has given the field its prominence and the scramble for acreage on the part of the big company representatives is the best evidence we have at the moment that the field is going to claim wide attention from now on rigs of every conceivable description are now being pressed into service it is re ported and when the big standard rigs get under way sensational developments are predicted and expected |
