Show industrial activity at fallon BY A J MOORE fallon fallen nov nev aug 20 numerous inquiries are received each week regarding the opportunities for employment and investment there is always a good demand here for farm help particularly at this season of the near ear haying hands are paid from 4 to 6 a day including board the demand for waiters and such is well supplied but there is a great scarcity of carpenters painters and electricians carpenters are particularly in demand at 8 a day few of those now in the town have ever had any experience in building derricks or other work around an oil well As to business enterprises it must be born in mind that this is not a boom town that has been put on the map over night it is a well developed town that for years has been a great agricultural center with a mining country back of it two large laige general s tores stores with big capital carry a heavy stock of goods much more complete than usually found in towns of equal size they carry everything from groceries to dry goods and from needles to mowing machines there may be room for small dealers but that would depend entirely upon the ability of the proprietor as to whether or not a profitable business could be built up there is room for a book and stationary store and possibly a first class exclusive cigar stand there are plenty of restaurants that serve good food at fair prices but the town has lacked a first class cafe though that will soon be supplied by the overland hotel the oil field situation all inquiries regarding the status of the various oil companies and their progress arp are turned over to the fallon fallen news bureau and all answers to such are censored by a committee of the commercial club persons who make such inquiries re ay depend upon receiving correct information owing to the I 1 that prevails regarding the application for prospecting per its the oil cla companies are not developing very verv much rauch information of a news nature it is is well understood that it is policy not to develop an oil well anywhere in the field until after these applications have been passed on to washington however there need be 10 0 o uneasiness on the part of stockholders as every company that has any doubt what ever er as to their holdings have filed applications for prospecting permits in many stances these applications have been filed in I 1 the names of individuals and not in the name of the company this has given rise to t the unwarranted statement that much of the e oil lands had been jumped true a little it of this has been done but in most in stances ances when the matter is run down the notice on the ground was placed there at the instance and with the knowledge of the company H J mcdonald a large stockholder in the nevada springs oil company has been in fallon fallen for several days he says 1 I am more than pleased with the showing made in the district to those who wait day by day it seems slow and
