Show general news from oatman SPECIAL correspondence oatman ariz june 24 for the first time in many months the camp has been treated to what appears to he be an important strike it was made at the adams and in a rather unexpected ni manner anner if development continues to disclose a large body of ore in the new vein the adams may take its place among the proven properties of the district when the first crosscut was run from the shaft at the foot level a fault fissure was found which could not be accounted for it was not regarded as the true adams vein which outcrops boldly on the surface for a distance of several thousand feet no effort was made to explore this fissure and the crosscut was continued until another vein was opened up which seemed to be the real article A drift has been advanced for a distance of feet to the east and while some very fine looking vein material was disclosed it was narrow and not sufficiently rich to justify calling it a mine the possibilities of the parallel fissure were ever present in the minds of manager N A darcy and superintendent toni tom kilker so it was determined recently to crosscut over to the neighboring vein it was here that a body of ore fourteen feet wide and carrying good values was opened u up 1 A drift is being run along the foot vall now in over thirty feet arid and all showing ore of milling grade according to superintendent gilkers Kil kers report the vein matter is quartz of a uniform character with green stains which mark the pay ore of the di district the next few days development at the adams should prove the most interesting in the history of that property the record lode at the record lode adjoining the old hardy mine in the northern portion of the district the shaft has reached water level and a distinct change is noted in the formation of the vein the shaft follows the vein and has carried values all the way three shifts are at work making rapid progress with the new plant recently installed mohawk central the mohawk central shaft has now practically reached the foot level and it is probable that a station will be cut and arrangements made for crosscutting at this level instead of at feet the question of using the diamond drill as a means of exploring this property from the shaft is being seriously considered the same method may be used on the telluride adjoining the tom reed which is being operated by J L mclver mciver of long mclver mciver Diani diamond ond drills have never been used in the oatman district except on the old moss mine though commonly employed in many other places they are much cheaper and quicker than shaft sinking tunnelling tun nelling or crosscutting with all mining costs increased fron from 50 to per cent some so n ie heaper cheaper C method of 0 f exploring prospective properties is essential to further development the oatman gold top the new thirty ton mill of the oatman gold top mining company in the secret pass section is now installed and ready for operation according to advices advises received from there this mill consists of ball mills for crushing and amalgamating for separating the gold the ore is taken from the hill above the mill a large body having been blocked out under the direction of i P loftus and J K E turner who control the property both are former goldfield mining men mr turner still being consulting engineer for several goldfield properties as well as for the oatman united here the gold ore it is announced by the gold ore mining company that otto veller of los angeles has been retained to design a mill for that property of a total daily capacity of tons a unit of fifty tons to be built first development work on the upper levels is being carried on for the purpose of further exploring the ore bodies of the gold ore mr designed the mill for the united eastern as well as for many other mining companies the united eastern at the united eastern a new record for output and value is in sight for the month of june hot weather is speeding up mill production and extraction is also improving the work of sinking the main shaft feet deeper will now be commenced immediately having been delayed by the noriar nonar non ar rival of equipment necessary for this work development on the lower levels continues with encouraging results the tom reed mill the new tom reed mill maintains an ail average production of about tons daily of about 98 with an average extraction per cent this is more than twice the average production during 0 the first month but 4 00 foot the above with under way level of the aztec the mill heads will vill show a decided increase next month it is predicted pa superintendent rabb confidently expects to reduce total mining milling and administration costs to the 5 a ton mark when the new mill gets to running at capacity while mining costs are increasing avith va costs have been materially cut down doivo a total charge of only 5 even ore running 8 a ton can be handled at a fair profit alie tons a day are treated |
