the butte district is now at work vork the number of rustlers seeking em seems as large as ever during the he past week the anaconda company has tt started up the Never sweat and moonlight s A mines which when running full force will i add men me to the forces of the company q uon on the opening day the number of men ap plying for the positions was estimated at 2 fully 2000 on january it was reported that about men were at work in the mines of butte it is estimated that during janu fl ary this number will be increased to K with the addition of the referred to in st the two mines started by the anaconda si 4 company and in the additional forces put 1 I to work at the butte superior mines 2 with the new mines that are to be put i into operation opera tion within the next few months j the opinion prevails that fully me mei a will be at work in the mines of butte by i july 1st ast provided conditions continue as at jp present resent at the washoe smelter over men are now on the payrolls pay rolls using speculator shaft an accident to the machinery of the big electrical hoist of the north butte mining company Coin made it necessary to close down the mine early in the month electricians after examining the trouble declared it would woud be necessary to send to the factory of the company that installed the hoist to replace certain parts this meant a delay of at least two weeks and a serious situation confronted the management it was decided to start up the old speculator shaft at oace and this was put into shape immediately so that only a two day shut down was necessary the company will vill operate the speculator shaft which is connected on nearly all levels with the granite Aloun mountain tain until the needed repairs can be made at the granite mountain new hoist for davis daly daiy A new electric hoist capable of handling ia a large output of ore to a possible depth of feet is to be installed at the davis daly daiy mine immediately if the recommendation of secretary treasurer C G schirmer is approved by the board of directors on the return of mr schirmer to boston he has just completed an inspection of the properties here and is highly pleased with the outlook the hump or shoulder between the 1700 and 1900 levels of the mine where only one compartment existed in the shaft is being taken out and by february 1 this work will be completed making it a three com part ment shaft all the way to the 2500 foot level this change together with the connection made on the 1700 foot level with the moonlight mine of the anaconda and the installation of new machinery will enable the davis daly to greatly increase the output nir mr schirmer after his inspection of the properties said conditions are very promising at the colorado mine and I 1 nevel felt more confident of the future of the davis daly the changes to increase production are imperative and I 1 shall urge our directors to make them at once much depends on our picking up the faulted hesperus vein to the west and as soon as IV we e find that the colorado mine will have a splendid prospect as a producing property the hibernia the hibernia mine in the western butte district is also one in which we have reason to believe we have a profitable property I 1 am in hopes that as soon as the anaconda company finishes the watering unwavering un of the net tie which adjoins the hibernia we will be able to make an arrangement to work the latter through the nettie workings mr schirmer was particularly impressed with the possibilities of the davis daly properties at lower depths as the company owns the ground adjoining the original ional of the anaconda where one of the best strikes ever made in the butte district has just been made on the foot level the same ore body has been opened up on the 2800 foot of the ig stewart and there is a strong probability that it extends into the davis daly properties angwill and will be found when the lower levels are opened up it was this strike of the anaconda company that had a strong bearing on the recommendation ommen dallon dation of mr air schirmer to install a hoist that would handle ores from a depth of feet the anaconda copper mining ailing company has inaugurated a new policy and on feb auary 1 will terminate all leases made to operators of precipitating plants at its butte properties the operation of the precipitating plants will be taken over by bythe the company and a superintendent placed in charge of all of them up tip to this time the company has operated directly three precipitating plants located at the high ore leonard and original mines where its principal pumping stations are also located eight other precipitating plants were leased to private parties it is estimated that the recovery of copper from cop per water amounted to approximately a million pounds per month about a fourth ot of this was secured by the leasers leaders lea sers with the advance in the price of copper to 25 cents a pound these leasers leaders were making big money the company will increase its income iby by the proposed change it is estimated fully per month or per year this will be equivalent to about 15 cents per share additional profits operations at barnes king the report of operations at the mines of the barnes king company for the month of december shows a total return in gold bullion of the november output was and that for october the total for the quarter ending january I 1 was the north moccasin mine in the month of december showed a yield of from tons of ore or per ton the piegan gloster mill handled 2650 tons of ore netting or per ton at the shannon mine of the company a total of feet of drifting east and west had been done up to january 1 from the bottom of the foot shaft jn in sinking the shaft and drifting feet 1370 tons of ore was taken out which by mine car samples indicated an average assay of 27 per ton the new tramway has been ordered and by april 1st ast this mine will be on a self sustain ing basis and ore will be shipped to the piegan gloster mill for handling at a meeting of the directors of the company held tuesday january 11 the first dividend declaration was ordered it will amount to 7 cents per share payable march to all stockholders of record february 15 and calls for a distribution of anaconda companas Comp anys great strike the richest and in many respects the most important strike of high grade coppel ore made in the butte district for several years has just been reported from the foot level of the original mine of theana the ana conda icooper mining alin aing company A body of ore between fifteen and twenty feet wide and running over 7 per cent copper has been opened up with the exception of the foot level of the high ore the crosscut that has opened up this new body of ore is the deepest in the butte district y t T the he importance of the now new discovery lies in the indications it gives of richer and more valuable and extensive ore bodies in the undeveloped lower levels of the ath other ermines mines of the district engineers who have examined the new express the belief that it is a part of the same opened on the 2800 foot level of the stewart mine which is located east and north of the original the crosscut on the 2800 of the stewart has been bee a run for about 1200 feet and the body of ore is ia about seventeen feet wide and all first class A crosscut is now being run en cn the foot level of the stewart to the same ore body and it is probable it will be reached within a month it seems probable that this of continuous high grade copper ore will when blocked out prove to be of enormous tonnage and value the stewart and original mines are two of the largest producing mines of the ana conda company each has an output of about tons p per 1 er day or nearly tons of ore per month with these two producing a combined tonnage of tons tons of ore per month and the new ore bodies of both being worked extensively this large strike of bonanza ore should raise materially the average copper content of the ores sent to the washoe and great falls smelters shelters sm elters of the I ft company during the year 1915 the average copper co P content of the ores of the Aaa anaconda conda company was between 3 26 and per cent the new strike has caused a widespread feeling of confidence in the future of practically all the other mines of the district should hould fi the same indications of high mineral values be shown at the greater depths in the other mines situated in the butte section it will mean the additions addition of many years to the life of the butte mines already several mining companies are making preparations to carry deep mining to a greater extent plans to install new hoists capable of handling
