Show the lewis hewl s mill ma at D battle attle mountain M R thurstan of the battle Aloun mountain tain mines lines development company operating out from battle mountain nevada states that he has completed the ore railway which will transport ore from tile the companas comp anys workings to the ton mill now practically completed in lewis canyon the following description of the companas comp anys new equipment is taken from the tain scout thursday morning the specially constructed ted horsepower diesel engine recently built for the battle mountain mines laines development company at lewis canyon by tile the dow engine works of san francisco arrived in battle mountain on two flat cars which were necessary to carry its weight of thirty tons besides accessory equipment this engine is the first of its type to be brought into this section and is a duplicate of two of its kind that have been running the plant of the national ice cold storage company in san francisco for the past three years with a record of only being stopped during that time once each forty days for one hour and thirty minutes to change valves ol 01 the engine which the above e company had built for its ton mill in lewis call canyon is known as the dow williams engine and is constructed under direct rights secured from the original diesel patents and is of the most modern pattern of those celebrated types of oil burning engines this engine was given a test run continuing from november to Decem december bex without a single stop under a load of brake horsepower this performance was carried through successfully with no defect developing in the engine in ill any way and with a consumption of six barrels of fuel oil for each twenty four hours run the oil which will be used for the engine is the fifteen gravity crude an unique feature of the engine is an appliance which furnishes air for the explosion mixture to the intake pipe under a barometrical pressure equal to the sea level standard this innovation eliminates the loss of horsepower suffered by oil and gas engines in their rated horsepower at all elevations above sea level which is caused by the thinning of the air as altitude is gained the engine in its knocked down dowil state will be taken out to the mine at once in the companas comp anys two auto trucks and installed in the mill building which is now fully completed the mill is favored by a grade from the mine which allows the ore railway to dump into a large bin at the back of tile the mill from whence the flow through the mill is all g gravity A twenty ton toil per hour rock crusher takes the ore from this storage bin and crushes it to pass a three inch size after which it is distributed into tile the feed bins above tile the ball mill which finishes the is of the grinding process this grinder marcy starcy manganese steel ball type with a diameter of six feet and length of three feet and lined with manganese steel step liners As the treatment will consist solely of concentration by oil flotation the oil mixture is fed into the ball mill with the ore and the latter ground to pass mesh the oversize is returned by a duplex dorr classifier to the mill while the fine material is conducted to three callow flotation cells and these boughers rou ghers are succeeded by a cleaner which takes the product from the cells from tile the cleaners the ore passes to a large dry plate under which the exhaust is conducted and the concentrates dried for shipment or further treatment the capacity of the mill is tons tolls of ore ground to pass mesh in twenty four hours and consumes 75 horsepower the balance of the capacity of the horse power diesel engine will go to supply power for accessory demands and air compression for the mine the mill is built on the unit system and provision has been made in its location and construction to allow it its capacity being increased to meet any mine requirement the ore to be treated in tills this plant consists chiefly of and exhaustive hau stive experiments were carried on before adopting the oil flotation process for I 1 its ts treatment we believe this is the first example of strictly oil flotation being used in the recovery of silver ores and as its operation will be of prime importance to many low grade silver properties the results obtained at this mill will be watched keenly by all operators interested in similar properties |
