rapidly toward the close 1915 was ushered in by dull times a holdover from 1914 and then the great camp struck its gait late in the year and the closing months showed an immense tonnage coming from the district despite the poor showing early in the year there was a considerable increase in the tonnage the figures showing about carloads in 1915 against about in 1914 As usual the district has lived up to its name of being one of the old reli ables of the state in the payment of dividends eight companies participating in the distribution the chief consolidated paid the eagle blue bell the grand central the iron blossom the lower mammoth the mammoth and the may day financial figures from the centennial eureka belonging to the united states smelting smelling Sm elting refining mining company are aie not available there was a slight decrease in tonnage from this famous old producer however it was a heavy shipper throughout the year and sent about 1000 carloads of ore to the companas comp anys smelter A great deal of development work has been done averaging probably 1000 feet a month the great iron blossom the iron blossom consolidated mining companas Comp anys property at silver city controlled by the knight investment company of provo utah has kept up its record of being one of the heavy producers and consistent dividend payers of the state it too shipped more than 1000 tons during the year the most important development was in a foot below the level of the no 3 workings nine feet of ore carrying from 10 to 12 per cent copper was cut through by the A big future for the company seems to be assured by this development as engineers in the past have predicted that the iron blossom will become a great copper mine with the attainment of depth considerable high grade zinc has been shipped during the year from the north workings a great deal of which carried as high as 36 per cent about two thirds of the ore from the no I 1 workings has been a good grade copper gold silver ore the balance being a high grade silver lead product the work is under the of charles E zabriskie the iron blossom has a dividend record of the eagle blue bell the eagle blue bell mining company operating at eureka under the management of imer pett reported during the year one of the greatest ore bodies ever opened in the state the deposit has been developed to the 1780 level this from a raise above the 1550 level gives a vertical depth of feet on the ore the width varying from five to thirty feet it has also been opened feet along its strike plans have been completed for the merging of the eagle blue bell and victoria consolidated interests and this will be accomplished early in 1916 the former has a dividend record of and the latter the eagle blue bell which is under the of william owens shipped about carloads of ore in 1915 chief consolidated mining company the chief consolidated mining company of which walter fitch is president and general manager and cecil fitch is superintendent has raised its dividend record to with the paid in 1915 it has also made the record of being the heaviest shipper in the district for the year the total output reaching about 1100 carloads approximating tons of ore the production of metal in round numbers was about ounces of gold ounces of silver pounds of lead and pounds of zinc the chief has been opened up in a systematic manner and the management has shown a progressive spirit at all times during the year a great many leasers leaders were at work in the property and as many as twenty blocks of ground have been worked in this way at one time development work is now being done under the contract system at a considerable saving to the company the leasers leaders also have added materially to the revenue from the property the may day although the property of the may day mining milling company at eureka of which james C dick is manager and clifton C griggs superintendent was worked entirely by leasers leaders during the year the production was such that the company disbursed in dividends bringing its total disbursements to since incorporation po ration the company has paid 11 cents per share for the year on stock that at no time has sold above 24 cents the may day leasers leaders shipped about carloads during 1915 zinc predominating in the values lower mammoth the lower mammoth mining company property at mammoth returned to the list of dividend payers after an absence of six years when it disbursed on december this brings its total dividends paid to the new developments of the property are on the 1000 level from which point the company is extracting copper lead silver and zinc ores J C dick is manager and william fouyer superintendent at the mine the grand central when the grand central mining company of mammoth declared its christmas dividend of it brought its grand total of disbursements to the respectable sum of shipments from the property were held at a low figure during the early months of the year owing to the low price of the metals but picked up in the last few months the companas comp anys immense deposits of low grade copper ore are now available for shipment this being made possible by the high price of the red metal it is estimated that there are at least tons of this product opened up in the property at the present price of copper the company is assured of a good income from this source alone C E loose of provo prove is the general manager of the property gold chain mining company the gold chain mining company operating the old ajax and gold chain groups at mammoth and under the same management as the grand central has been developing its deeper levels through the lower mammoth workings and opens the new year in a very promising condition developments have been carried on between the SOO and levels in a zone that has paid many dividends in the past about carloads of ore were shipped running from 5 to 7 per cent copper 8 to 12 ounces silver and around 3 gold to the ton tile present company has a dividend record of and the old ajax paid nearly before it became a part of the gold chain it is expected that the company may again appear in the dividend column in 1916 gemini operations the gemini mine at eureka owned and i operated by the gemini mining company jackson C mcchrystal general manager with a dividend record in the past of 3 shows more than 2000 feet of devel work for the year shipments to about carloads A great deal of work has been done on the property by leasers leaders lea sers all ot of whom are reported to have made money the gemini has an important development of ore below the water level at the 1700 foot point some of which carries as high as 18 per cent lead and ounces silver but this level has not been extensively worked owing to the water the management being unwilling to pay the expense of draining surrounding properties t without help from them john H mcchrystal is superintending super intending operations jj ridge valley the ridge valley mining company i under the same management as the gemini has also done a great amount of develop 1 I ment work shipments were not heavy however less than ten carloads being sent out the company owns thirty nine claims j and has a past production of metal to its credit of about ounces of silver pounds of lead and pounds of zinc the mine opens the new year in good shape and shipments are to be made regularly uncle sam consolidated shipments from the property of the uncle sam consolidated mining company at eureka were only about half what they were during the preceding year but important strikes are reported and the prop property eity is expected to show its old time form during the coming year the property has paid a total of in dividends in the past james C dick is manager and clifton C griggs superintendent an important strike was made by the yankee consolidated late in the year on its hamburg claim this is proving one of the great ore bodies of the camp with development and heavy shipments are being sent out tile the new mills tile the utah minerals concentrating company which commenced operations about a year ago has had a successful season tile the plant uses a straight concentrating process and has done a great deal of custom work during the year the mines operation company formerly of park city utah and the knight christ ensen metallurgical company whose mill at silver city burned down have joined interests under the name of the tintic gintic milling company and are now erecting a ton plant at silver city jesse knight is president of the new concern and george H dern is general manager the plant is to treat the low grade ores of the district by the roasting and process and is expected to be in operation some time in february properties of knight investment co the knight investment company of provo to which the district owes much uch in the way of development and which has brought out many great producers in the officers of the company are jesse knight president A M knight vice president W lester mangum secretary these with R E allen alien J william knight and knight starr jordan compose the directorate the tintic gintic district has had a prosperous year regardless of the poor start made in the early months and the year just starting with its rising markets and increasing demand for all metals is expected to bring greater prosperity than has ever been known there before everything points to the greatest year of the districts history for 1916 |
