Show agton di district strict in I 1 n 1915 BY L L TURNER the latter part of the year has been marked by a decided increase in mining 0 operations pe rations in the district several companies taking advantage of the high price 0 of f copper are now on the producing list and are sending out ont shipments regularly the greater part of which are going to the smelters shelters sm elters near salt lake city considerable ore of a very high grade has been and is being mined and marketed in by lessees lessels les sees most arost of this ore running from 10 to 15 per cent is being sold to the western ore purchasing company with sampler at hazen nevada one of the most successful leases I jining engineer ludwig nov nev 1 is that of hamilton week and elbert on the property of the yerington consolidated company A recent shipment of three cars averaged 12 per cent copper this company owns some very promising ground which should respond favorably to systematic exploration however no work has been done by the company for several years lessees lessels on the empire nevada group near yerington and on the surface workings of the nevada douglas consolidated copper companas Comp anys property at ludwig are steady shippers the bluestone mine during the suni hier and fall the esperi mental concentrating plant at de lamars bluestone mine was in operation the ore which averages about 25 per cent in copper consists of in an lime gangue in the combined process used the ore is crushed dry to eight mesh run over sixty mesh impact screens the oversize over size being fed to tower roasters asters ro and then run over wetherill magnetic separators and the fines being run directly to a small flotation plant for concentration the magnetic part 0 of f the process pro cess has a capacity of seventy five tons per twenty four hours and the flotation plant will handle tons making a combined capacity for the mill of tons per day As the magnetic process gives the best results when the fines have been screened from the crushed ore and as the fines are easily concentrated by the flotation process this combination gives very good results the combined extraction being well over 90 per cent of the copper in the ore the concentration cent ration ratio is from six to seven into one As fine grinding is not required in this combination both the cost of plant and cost of treatment are remarkably low several cars of concentrates recovered from the experimental work have been shipped to the smelters shelters sm elters C A week weck is superintendent of s the property and has been personally in charge of the experimental work the mine and smelter of the mason valley mines company have remained idle during the year A small leaching plant has been erected at their smelting smelling sm elting plant at thompson and work of an experimental nature hasteen has been underway under way since early spring however no information as to results obtained hasteen has been given out by those in charge of the work the nevada douglas the nevada douglas consolidated cop per company has during the last six months been mining some of its high grade ores from the and levels of the ludwig mine this ore is being mined at the rate of twenty five tons per day and is averaging are being 15 per percent cent copper shipments mide made to the international si smelter nelter at international ter national utah it is understood however that the companas comp anys mill at ludwig will be in a position after the first of the entire output from its year to handle the several properties in the district and all ores mined will be treated there after that date A detailed account of the operation of the mill has already appeared in the mining review and the procedure as given then has not been changed excepting that the ore is now crushed to sixty mesh the saving in time of treatment and the reduced amount of acid required more than offset the cost of the finer crushing at the present time the mill is treating tons of sulphide ore per day the ore is given a slight roast in the wedge furnaces and the sulphur changed over to sulphuric acid and sulphur dioxide gases which are used in leaching the oxidized ores the copper sulphate solutions from the sulphuric acid towers are conveyed to precipitating tanks and converted into a marketable product running 80 per cent c opper copper several carloads of this precipitate will be shipped early in january the present cost of 1 per ton for treatment will be reduced on the completion of the mechanical equipment for handling the products from the wedge furnaces early in the year the nevada douglas acquired the western nevada group of eight patented claims A force of thirty men is employed here and the property is shipping afif fifty ty tons of sulphide ore per day to the mill at ludwig |
