Show pioche pi oc he is is prosperous 1 in n 1915 BY W 0 BROWNE pioche the county seat of lincoln county in southeastern nevada is one of the few survivors of the old lead silver camps existent in the state being contemporaneous us with virginia city austin eureka and numerous others which flourished forty ayears ears ago the bonanza era operations of athe he early extracted millions from the extremely rich ores ore leaving vast tonnages ton nages of lower grade milling material unprofitable at that time the vicissitudes which pioche passed through during the succeeding years 1875 to 1906 caused by litigation etc would form a story of its own needless to say however the exploitation of the admittedly large tonnage of milling ores incidental with the development of the newer mines is the dawning of a new and prosperous era for pioche the year 1915 has been momentous as regards the pioche district which embraces several minor districts it augurs well for future prosperity the prince consolidated the prince consolidated one of the bater mines has maintained its reputation ras the giant producer of the district 1915 shipments aggregating over tons this large tonnage was the result of devel koument Iop ment work done in the apparently inexhaustible haus tible iron manganese ore bodies the development work during the year while IF IF practically doubling the value of the property intrinsically has demonstrated no limits so far to the ore deposits in july of this year the company entered the divi bend ranks declaring its initial disbursement dividends to date have aggregated 1 the first after a lapse of forty I 1 years the pioche king property comprising nearly acres and immediately adjoining the prince was recently acquired by athe the latter company with the forecast for metal prices extremely bright especially silver 1916 should be a banner year for the I 1 prince consolidated the amalgamated pioche the amalgamated pioche mining smelting smelling Sm elting corporation whose holdings embrace all the early day producers on pioche mountain including the raymond ely and the meadow valley have confined their air operations to the development at depth of the famous black ledge working through the no I 1 shaft during 1915 in n the course of development and blocking out ut of large tonnages ton nages of silver lead zine zinc milling sulphides sulp hides the company has maintained bained shipments of extremely high grade ilver lead zine zinc ores sorted from the above plans lans have been completed and work is laining lAi engineer pioche nevada now under way for a plant to treat the black ledge ores the tonnage of which is unquestioned concentration and flotation are expected to solve the complex nature of these ores A plant of this character has long been needed in pioche and will add materially to the life of the camp with proper milling facilities under the stimulation of increased metal prices the amalgamated should show substantial earnings in 1916 H R van is in charge of operations incidental with the above is the recent resumption of operations at the greenwood property of the amalgamated which has been leased to E ih 11 snyder derand and associates the ores were identical with the black ledge ores and it is understood from froin reliable information mr snyder has succeeded in patenting a process for their successful treatment E W dark clark of 0 ophir utah representing W A dark clark was a recent visitor to pioche the lease also includes several old dumps containing immense ton nages which should be amenable to treatment A mill for these ores is an absolute absolu te certainty plans being formulated at present writing for early construction the arcane mining company the arcane mining company recently incorporated is about to start operations on the old california calif ornia pioche property immediately adjoining the amalgamated holdings on the south the financing has been successful and bids received to sink the present shaft an additional feet to the foot level the property is equipped with a 40 horsepower fairbanks morse hoist two drill compressor blacksmith shop etc jackhammer machines will in all probability be used in sinking the shaft the management expects to encounter at depth the southern extension of the susan duster lead zinc and incidentally to exploit its own known outcrop the speculative possibilities of this property considering its immediate neighbor the amalgamated pioche are tremendously large the fact that the famous black ledge dips directly towards the arcane ground is itself significant the development work in this property will be closely watched by the big companies H W rand is president S P kinney secretary and treasurer with salt lake offices in the walker bank building the yuba leasing company the yuba leasing development company is operating a nine year lease on the pioche meadow valley properties owned by the amalgamated pioche during 1915 large tonnage tonnages ton nages of milling material gold silver randsome a and some lead have been developed in the old meadow valley no 3 property and a 50 ton plant completed and put in operation the mill is running to capacity and making successful extractions concentration and being employed the company intends installing accustom a custom unit at the mill shortly thereby creating a market for the prospector and small miner working low grade sili clous ores in the district hitherto unable to ship to salt lake markets on account of smelting smelling sm elting charges the lease also eni embraces braces the old yuba property famous for its high grade silver lead ore bodies occurring in the yuba dyke drifting is being inaugurated at the present writing to connect with the lower workings of the yuba proper where excellent tonnages ton nages of ideal milling ore was reported when last worked years ago several hundred feet of virgin territory on the yuba dyke the accepted mineralizing mineral izing agent remains to be developed the lease has eight years yet to run A Y smith is general manager B L smith secretary and treasurer H L parker superintendent in the demijohn consolidated the demijohn consolidated IN mining lining company lying two miles north of the prince was acquired during the year by F W price and associates A small force of men has been employed for the last six months developing the property in the course of which some good lead silver gold ore has been extracted A drift is being driven northeast from the station to 10 cut the extension of the yuba dyke at depth inasmuch as the dyke has long been generally accepted as the mineral source of the 1 pioche p properties roper ties traversed by same good results are anticipated at the demijohn some hundred feet or so have yet to be driven the work is being prosecuted under the able direction of charles H getsch day bristol mines the day bristol properties sixteen miles northwest from pioche were acquired in 1915 by the consolidated california nevada mining company this company has started an active campaign employing about fifty men silver copper ore has been opened up on six levels in the gypsy workings but hoisting capacity is at present limited the completion of the new gypsy shaft shortly will remedy same increasing the hoisting capacity to tons daily november production was tons of high grade copper silver ore development work in the gypsy during the last two months has disclosed four new ore bodies of increased grade A new equipment engine and compressor is being installed on the hillside shaft engine and compressor have been installed on the tempest shaft and daily shipments of fifty tons will shortly be forthcoming the tempest ore carries excess iron with good silver values the foot aerial tramway is working successfully at a cap capacity acety of ten tons per hour with copper dij at 21 cents and still C climbing the prospects are av va aan exceedingly 4 e bright for this company george V V bent is superintendent tha make good mine the make good property in the hit bit district consisting of five claims has been operated during 1915 by the owners E D F and 11 1 1 E freudenthal development work consists of three shafts and a forty foot tunnel some high lead silver ore being extracted and shipped wagon haul to the jackrabbit Jack rabbit railroad is one and a half miles A small force of men is at present employed the atlas mining co development work of the atlas mining company in the bristol district consists of a twenty eight foot tunnel driven early in 1915 to cut vein at depth which outcrops on summit of mountain A six foot vein at the outcrop shops 30 values in silver and lead but on account of inaccessibility to same tunnel was run expectations are that vein will be cut in feet farther getting over feet depth on oil outcrop the property is traversed by a porphyry dyke paral lelling vein the company intends resuming operations immediately arter alter january 1 1916 H AV mcintosh portland ore is president H W rand secretary and treasurer H E freudenthal local agent the santa marta some phenomenally high silver ore has recently been discovered on the property of the santa marta mining company operating sixty five miles northwest from pioche in the old patterson district reminiscent of early day operations of the the company was recently organized and has developed some rich silver lead veins carrying some copper vein quartz showing free gold has also been discovered and a vigorous campaign for 1916 is being mapped out charles lee horsey is president william E orr vice president H E freudenthal secretary and treasurer E F freudenthal manager the easter gold property operating near caliente has recently grade gradd J bord is superintendent the silver comet sn milling company mining tho the silver comet district dietric t west operating in the comet of pioche has made remarkable progress during 1915 having and placed p laced in for the ores suitable operation a plant mined the ore is a lead silver tungsten occurring in fissure veins in quartzite concentration cent ration and electric separation are employed tungsten concentrates have recently cent 50 65 run as high as per per unit is being paid for this grade motor trucks are used as means of transportation a twenty two mile haul to a point on the caliente pioche branch being necessary E D smiley is in charge of operations the recent completion of the comet mill together with its capacity to treat custom ores has given an impetus to resumption of operations on numerous holdings in that district considerable interest is being evinced by outside mining men on account of the high tungsten and the persistence of the veins and values several good nite veins have been opened up recently by local parties owning claims quartz veins carrying good gold values are receiving some attention also in this section should the phenomenally no high price for tungsten continue in 1916 a small sized boom in this district is possible and highly probable everything considered pioche is on the upgrade the comeback the resumption of dividends after a forty year lapse speaks volumes with four or five new mills in operation 1916 will see several new producers under the stimulation of increased metal prices with silver going to an unprecedented ce figure pioche will enjoy a prosperity equaled only by the early boom days |
