Show I 1 MILL PRACTICE AT THE CARIMAN f ake miner ali rier Boi boulder ilder colorado gives the very verv interesting description of following uhe the flow sheet and equipment of the new plant of the cariman mining milling milling company of that place i the mill is built below the dumps at the spot where the small plant of years year sago ago awas was f formerly ormer ly located at the top of the immense ore bins into which the aill mill are ore is drawn by a sort of dredging scraper which operates with power in the mill and I 1 loosens and scoops up the compact material of the dump without employment of labor by this device the ore is placed in I 1 the mill at the head of the automatic feed K system at a cost of not more than four or five cents the ton and the supply for a 24 hour run is had in a few hours time in any weather efrom the storage tanks it is fed I 1 to and carried through the mill tons daily without manual labor the mill force consisting only of skilled mechanics taking care cafe of the machinery and watching its operation the mill is a combination of the principles caples of concentration and the process is briefly the following from the storage bins the ore is fed to a blake I 1 fc crusher rusher to storage bin from this it is fed aby by a positive automatic device at a fixed rate to a six foot hardinge ball mill where it is reduced to thirty mesh the oversize to 41 4 2 foot ball mill of the same design the cyanide solution is introduced at the I 1 ball mill and all treatment thereafter is in solution from the crushing department I 1 1 the pulp goes to flood classifiers a device perfected by mr flood the engineer in charge of the mill construction thence to a battery of two wilfley and four card tables cables wh where ere the heavier sulphide ores are recovered the are sent back and reground and returned over the tables tabled the tailings are laundered to dorr classifier I 1 where sands and slimes are separated the sands are carried to three large leading tanks the slimes are conveyed through 1 three dorr agitators and two dorr thickeners 3 thence to the new portland and filter where with suction action and careful wash ing ig the charged solution is recovered the precipitation of the metals from the solution Ol utiOn is accomplished by the standard process with zinc shavings the cyanide solution js is held in closed circuit and no losses losses are permitted the mill is automat 1 I ct as stated before it has gravity carriage and there is neither elevator nor lnor in the plant except a small I 1 elevator elector to return the an and d the culps pulps which handle the cyanide solution F it ji is ls saving ving over 90 per cent of the values of the ore at a total cost of per ton including deluding the crude material f from rom the darid du elmp rID this is nearing the minimum of such cost st in a plant of the size and located at such altitude the recovery is distributed in about the following manner concentrates cen 30 per cent slimes 50 per cent sands 15 per cent to 20 per cent it is the most perfectly designed and satisfactorily operating milling plant in northern colorado and a pattern to which future milling construction in this district must conform the mill is built for the dumps but it is the mill also for the ore of the reserves of the mine no less careful sampling and estimate of the mine have been made and there are hundreds of feet of the levels and now opened in which ore bodies ten and fifteen feet wide show values of from 16 upward moreover in many places the famous old ore is still found carrying hundreds of ounces of silver to the ton |
