Show ACTIVITY AT THE CARDIFF geo IL ryan the well known salt lake mining engineer engineer who is in the employ of the cardiff mining company operating in ali the south fork of big cottonwood not far from alta utah who was in salt lake the first of last week believes that the south fork will be the scene of extensive development as soon as the season fairly opens and he looks forward to important discoveries being made during the summer in the many valuable properties 1 in n that locality in speaking of the wonderful cardiff the recent discoveries in which have set mining circles c ir cles agog he had the following to say the storm on the first of the present month delayed the teams hauling ore from the cardiff in the south tork fork of the bi big g cottonwood ton wood but development work is being prosecuted with as much vigor as ever the production has been co coming ming from the development work done to determine the size of the ore body and no effort has been made so far to do any sloping the fissure in the quartzite hanging wall has been found and a raise will be driven on it to the upper tunnel where this fissure made all the ore previously shipped the proposed raise will doubtless disclose more of the heavy sulphide ore running high in copper which characterized the ore mined from this fissure in the upper workings some stringers in the crushed quartzite filling the fissure show galena mixed with calco pyrite which is about conclusive evidence that this is the fissure looked for there are fourteen men at the property and work will be carried on all winter even if the te teams ams are unable to haul any more until spring the snow fall in ahe the cottonwoods Cotton woods has been very much below normal up to the first of february when a storm began 4 which lasted five days and piled up about three feet of snow bringing t the he total fall for the winter up about five feet the american con copper company has lia S just ju S t finished its annual work on its ground joining the cardiff on the northwest four men have been at work here for several months and during the course of their work opened some very good look ing sulphide ore in a fissure in the quartzite the tar baby mining company is preparing to resume operations this winter and will put on a force of men as soon as the road can be broken from the mouth of the south fork to the mine so that the necessary equipment and supplies may be hauled in for the rest of the winter no bad slides have occurred in the south fork as yet and as the cardiff teams kept the roads open until february 1st ast it will not be very difficult to break the road again through the last fall of snow and then keep it open until such time as the snow fall makes the possibility of slides imminent in |
