Show notes on some nevada camps by BILL ILL G C HIGGINS substantial gains have been made in nevada mining camps during 1913 it is true that money for investment was not as easily obtainable as formerly but development has been on the increase with most satisfactory results during the year large expenditures have been made by the nevada cinnabar company in the development and equipment of its property at lone ione the up to date furnace for the production of quicksilver was given its finishing touches during the close of the year and the company should be on a regular producing basis within a very short time near mina during the year some very promising cinnabar deposits were discovered and these in all probability will be extensively developed in the near future considerable activity prevailed during the year in the gold camp of national north of winnemucca and rich discoveries were reported at gold circle also promising progress was made in mine development and operation and the district holds an exceedingly bright outlook for the future mining around golconda is in a promising condition and the excellent showing on kramer hill and in the kramer property will undoubtedly lead to systematic development and operation during the present year conditions at pioche the year 1913 was a prosperous one for the grand old camp of pioche and that section is now in better condition physically and financially than for many years past cpr one thing much of the litiza tion that has been a menace to the district for so long has been settled and work is now progressing in the operation of the old time producers and dividend players payers in the heart of the camp this work is now in the hands of the amalgamated pioche mines and smelting smelling Sm elting corporation which has absorbed all of the holdings of the utah nevada mines company and the ohio kentucky copper company during the year this company began preliminary work looking to heavy operation in the future and as a result the town of pioche has taken on new life and now is in better condition in a business way than has been the case for six or seven years the building of the railroad from pioche to the prince cons has also been of great benefit to the district and the operation of the prince has given substantial aid in the development of the district the prince during 1913 reverted back to its former management and is now producing both regularly and profitably while no doubt exists as to the ultimate success of this great enterprise adjoining the prince consolidated co is the virginia louise which has executed a large amount of development and blocked out large bodies of payable ore the new railroad line has also been of material benefit to the mendha mandha nevada which installed reduction works and was a shipper of both crude ore and concentrates the mines of bristol district a few miles put out of pioche made excellent head way in the matter of development an andl also made gratifying records in the matte mattell of ore shipments the camp of rochester the new gold and camp of roch ester in humboldt co nev is practically but a year old it was discovered d during durin the declining days of 1912 but development had hardly started before the first of the incoming year so that practically all of its real history was chronicled dur ing 1913 at first there was a great rush to the new district and the population as early as the first of april was too great for the new producers to support this resulted in a punctured boom and for a few months the stampede out almost equaled the fevered rush to the camp earlier in the season this exodus however was no reflection upon the intrinsic merit and promise of its mines which with greater development have proved their worth beyond the greatest expectations of the most sanguine As a matter of fact rochester is on the map to stay and it is making history that is again attracting widespread wide spread attention and interest the world over the camp of rochester produced in ore in the year 1913 and is now shipping at the rate of ten cars of ore daily going about 35 per ton among the shippers are the codd lease the big four leases nos 1 and 2 the colligan cole shea and Killi har packard buck charley and lincoln hill the big four has uncovered a body of oxidized ore and has a large showing of 50 ore the cole lease is reported to have uncovered a foot of ore while the S hea is accredited with nine feet of 45 ore the shea has about 2500 sacks of ore piled up on the dump which is being marketed as rapidly as possible the boreland lease on the raven is looking exceptionally well with four feet of 70 ore reported while on the H P aldredge lease on the big four block there is said to be a showing of one foot of ore the buck and charley in lower rochester is also on the shipping list the building of the branch line railroad from the camp to the southern pacific at j oreana has been of great benefit to the district the nevada consolidated copper company of ely produced tons of dry ore by steam shovel methods in 1913 j besides several hundred thousand tons from underground workings during the same period the company removed cubic yards of overburden the concentrating plant at mcgill treated about tons of ore daily supplying the demands of the company aitery besides which it handled from to 1000 tons of ore daily during the second half of the year from the mines of the giroux consolidated during 1913 the company produced approximately proximately y pounds of copper in dividends and paid the giroux consolidated adjoining the nevada consolidated opened large deposits of steam shovel ore during the year its output going to the mcgill con Copp ermines company this company secured a bond issue during 1913 of this issue was made for the purpose of raising funds for the construction of a milling plant for the treatment of its low grade ores this plant will probably be installed near the warm springs near fast east ely |
