Show JARBIDGE NEVADA IN 1913 by winthrop W fisk the past season in this camp has been a very quiet one and there has been vey very little development work going on except in a very small way and by individual prospectors the chicago people who finally filially completed the purchase of the alpha mine late last year and from whom much was expected this season did not make any ally move until late this fall their delay seemed to be due to the fact that that they wanted to secure other claims before they began to work the alpha and enhance the value of the ground which they wished to secund secure however not being able to make satisfactory terms for this ground they ot at last went to work on their mine sinking their shaft deeper and opening several levels which would increase the available ore then they hurried in a small mill and tramway both of which are now in working order working fine and what is of more much more interest to everyone in the camp as well as all friends of the camp this little mill during the few days it has been running has been plating considerable sid erable gold the plates are cleaned every four hours and the ball of amalgam resulting each time is most satisfying and is gratifying to the large number of old timers in the camp who have so long held on and waited for some company to prove the undoubted value of the district by the actual production of bullion on a business basis the alpha mill is located 1600 feet from the mouth of the tunnel and is connected with it by a gravity suspension tramway 1 feet long with one inch standing cable and half inch hauling cable which was supplied by A leschen sons the buckets one on each end of the line are of 14 1 4 ton capacity but have been built up to carry about 13 1 3 ton each the ore bin in the mill will held about three days supply of ore the present supply of ore for the mill comes partly from the different workings of the mine and the balance from the old ore dump below the shaft which is feet above the tunnel level and in which there is estimated to be about worth of good milling ore of an average value of about 15 per ton the shaft has reached a depth of nearly feet below the tunnel level from which drifts are being run every fifty feet As yet no have been started spots of high grade ore have been encountered at intervals all the way down the shaft and some of the best specimens seen from the mine have come from the bottom of the shaft the vein holds its own well going down and the drifts show a tendency of the ore chute to increase somewhat in size at depth the company is now employing men and has a good bunkhouse bunk house and a boarding house a good wagon road was built up tile the gulch to the mill and most of the winters supplies are already in hand the mill was furnished by the allis chalmers manufacturing company and consists of an blake model rock breaker a challenge ore feeder a five stamp battery of 1000 pound stamps and copper tables the mill is run by a 25 horse power fair bank morse gasoline engine A large oil tank has been erected at some distance from the mill in which there is now a sufficient su supply of distillate to run the mill all winter A dam has been built across the creek to hold the tailing for future treatment with cyanide if it should be found necessary A short distance to the northeast from tile the alpha there has been a fine vein of ore opened on the legitimate c which gives promise of making ano another dier good mine about an equal distance further to the north is the flaxie mine in which a small amount of development work continues to be done by the owners all of their arif drifts ts cross cuts and dinzes are still in the same ore chute that was encountered last year in the tunnel and the same class of ore is found with large amounts of fancy apeci men stuff A small shipment of a few tons was made from this mine a short time ago which it was estimated would yield about per ton about nine miles to the south near the head of the east fork of the jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge river ole norman has been working all summer on his claims in which there was found some high grade float last fall he ran several short tunnels and found the surface matter quite deep and was obliged to start a longer tunnel to get down into the solid formation he has at last been rewarded for his work the tunnel has cut fifty two feet of vein matter in which there are two places each about four feet wide which show good values in the pan midway between the norman ground and the flaxie is situated the little devil claims upon which martin and rowland have been working for over a year they have recently made their second shipment of ore the first shipment returned them per ton and the present shipment is expected to run a little better the devil vein is about seven feet wide of which about three feet on the hanging wall side is blue lime with talc the balance being quartz the talc carries very little value but the quartz is all good milling value with bunches of high grade scattered through it the little devil claims are to the southwest of the pick and shovel both of these properties are bonded to the cleveland ohio people who have been working on the arizona fraction and who have purchased a large interest in the success company this company has been very quietly securing a very large holding in the camp it has run over feet of tunnel on the arizona fraction and has seven feet of fine ore in the face of the tunnel this vein is about feet west of the pick and shovel vein they are now in over feet on the tunnel which is to cut the pick and shovel vein at a depth of about feet and are now very close to the vein james mccoy has been working one or two men for some time on the altitude claims in the first crater he expected to put in a small mill this fall but it did not arrive in time to be taken over the mountain and he compromised by taking up a braun disc with which he could treat his extra high grade ore which occurs in a small streak along the side of the vein on the jarbidge harbidge Jar bidge gold company ground just to the northeast of the flaxie mine there has been found some fine ore but as opened up ud in a yet the vein has not been very solid formation so that it is impossible to tell just what they have they were looking for the extension of the flaxie vein made the find is to but where they have the west of where they expected to td find the flaxie vein and it must either be another vein or else there is a fault which has thrown the vein to the west during the last six weeks there has been considerable activity in doing assessment work all over the district the owners ot of claims having apparently come to the conclusion that the present outlook is so encouraging cou raging that is worth while for them to protect their interests |
