Show THE YEAR IN UTAH the year 1913 takes its place as a very successful year in the mining industry of utah while no new mining districts have been discovered the production of the older camps has resulted in a large increase in tonnage mined a slight increase in gross value and nearly half a million dollars increase in dividend payments we shall devote most space to an analysis of the dividends paid and at this point shall sum up conditions in only a general way leaving the detailed information to the various writers who are describing in this issue the progress made in the various camps A glance at the accompanying table of dividends shows some things of promise of the companies which paid dividends in 1912 only one failed to pay in 1913 three of the old companies came back into the list after a years absence and tour four new names are noted for the year which are responsible for something more than the amount of the increase over the preceding year considering the three main districts park city gained one dividend payer and the mines of the camp paid a gain of over 1913 two of the producers distributed less this year but did a large rge amount of development the effect of which should be noted in the dividend list of another year fintics cs mines paid the past year yea r a gain of and the camp is the home of two of the new payers as well vell as nine of the old ones before another year is ended it is likely that others will 11 join the list and thus keep up the good record of this grand old camp at bingham there were three dividend payers distributing a slight decrease from the preceding year in spite of the disastrous strike conditions of late 1912 and early 1913 dividends were not seriously impaired about should be added to ginghams Bing hams liams quota to account for the approximate profits of the united states company from its bingham mines for which no separate report is given out thus it is seen that conditions in the three leading camps were satisfactory and indications are for even greater activity the coming year in the smaller districts substantial stant lial progress has been made and some of them should give us dividends in a short time while others must await transportation facilities we think that the showing of the mining industry as indicated by the articles appearing in the issue and the list of dividends paid has not been dull in utah although it is true that stock exchange business is at a standstill however stock quotations are not a good criterion of min ing activity of far more import is the assessment list which has been very busy in 1913 in providing additional capital to go into our mines and maintains the interest of small investors in the mines plans are underway for the formation of an association of mining men to promote the mining interests of the state we believe this is a good move but in pushing it to a successful conclusion it is not necessary to give vent to statements implying that mining is dull hereabouts statements that are eagerly seized upon by those who wish to divert investment money from utah certain loudly proclaimed statements of this sort made in the last few weeks have done and will do incalculable harm to our mining industry through its effect on eastern investors mining as an industry is not dull in utah as a speculation it may be let us all pull together for an even busier year to come and forget the pessimistic utterances of the discontented 1913 dividends of utah mines 1913 1912 bingham new haven centennial eureka chief consolidated cliff clif f colorado con mercur and constituents daly daiy judge daly west eagle blue bell 1 gemini gethin leroy 4 gold cold chain grand central iron blossom 0 ingot gold 0 mammoth may day moscow Opo hongo silver king coalition silver king consolidated utah copper utah consolidated yankee consolidated total |
