Show 0 GOLD STRIKE AT TELLURIDE special correspondence beatty nev april 1 I the gold strike at telluride is attracting a good deal of attention the camp is about eight miles east of beatty in the fluorine mining district the general formation of the country is lime with smaller beds of quartzite dipping east at an angle of about 15 degrees the easterly slopes of and bare mountains are fractured with a system of granite porphyry dykes running northerly and southerly and generally dipping easterly it may be readily followed for a distance of ten miles leasers leaders have done work for two years on small droppings crop pings of silver bromides in the lime without profit mr bond found rich porphyry float nearly two months ago which he traced to the ore shoot which he is now developing the dyke at this point is forty five feet wide and well mineralized with iron and manganese panning will show colors scattered through the dyke but mostly in the seams mr bond is sinking on a ten inch stringer of quartz and porphyry near the center of the dyke A sample of the fines in this stringer which the writer panned would easily run 2000 mr bond is sacking the entire stringer mr kiernan has found high values in the porphyry on ground adjoining bonds but sufficient work has not been done to determine the extent of the ore the diamond queen property has been shipping high grade gold ore for some time from contact ore bodies in the lime this property is on the same dyke system about six miles south of the bond strike E U J WAUGH |
