Show THE GOLD CROWN MINE special correspondence kingman ariz april 12 word has just been received from B E A barton superintendent perin of the gold crown mine at union pass of the discovery in an old tunnel now being extended of ore assaying 88 per ton samples taken a few days ago across the entire face of tunnel no 2 which is now in feet assayed 16 or nearly double the average value of the drift to date the gold crown lies in the river range about nine miles north from the gold road mine and its ledge a mixture of quartz and spar from twenty to thirty feet wide is similar to the veins of the san francisco district it has been under development by a new jersey company for about a year which has disclosed by means of numerous cuts and gunels a body of free milling gold ore estimated by barton bafton to be tons and averaging better than 6 per ton grading is now under way for a ton stamp mill contracts for which were let several weeks ago and the first shipment of machinery is expected in a lew days at the neighboring expansion mine rapid progress is being made in the erection of the new mill and cyanide plant and both are expected to be completed within the next thirty days C J hatchl son is superintendent rex dunlap representing twitchell co of phoenix in company with J D jordan recently looked over several properties in the san francisco district and expressed himself as very much pleased with the showings dunlap stated that he would return in a short time for further examination and that his firm would be in operation somewhere in the county within the next few months after four months of unceasing effort using every means of draining and timbering the management of the tennessee mine has been forced to pull out a big steam pump installed only a few weeks ago and abandon work temporarily the water which had bad been the chief obstacle was being handled easily but after timbering and bracing the first feet and cleaning out to that point three times it was found that the entire shaft was settling no amount of re enforcing seems to be capable of holding the ground the being especially bad work has been stopped in this old shaft with much reluctance because below the level it has been sunk in a country rock of blue granite which could easily be widened for use as a permanent working in shaft As it is steps are being taken to buy the adjoining schuylkill kill mine and use its shaft in getting under the tennessee ore shoots the united states smelting smelling Sm elting refining company which has the tennessee under bond is fully determined to at least look into the bottom of that property and should the above purchase fall through a new shaft will probably be started J H ROSENBERG |
