| Show THE SAN JUAN OIL FIELDS R E L collier tells of activity and progress in this region that there is some reason for the interest being taken in the new oil fields in san juan county utah near bluff city is vouched couched for by R B E L collier of salt lake the well known engineer who has returned home from this section where he has been since the middle of november last in the interest of the chicago exploration com ipaty which directly and indirectly owns and controls about acres of presumably oil bearing ground in this favored section during his stay in san juan county mr collier was employed in making surveys mapping the country and perfecting titles and his people will begin oil drilling operations as soon as the necessary machinery can be shipped in at the present time there are five drilling outfits at work in the san juan field these are the goodridge the the hamey the brice and the galloway the latter having a standard rig the largest in the field with a capacity of about feet at the depot at dolores there are two more rigs which will be employed by the dark clark company which will drill both north and south of the river the goodridge well near the bed of the san juan river and eighteen miles southwest of bluff city is feet deep the oil in the well measuring feet the oil is of superior quality and contains a large percentage of gasoline all of the parties mentioned have encountered oil at the first sand at a depth of about feet and are now going deeper to open up the other strata below the country is located for miles and the indications in one locality are practically identical with those in another so that it would seem that the field is a large one with room for all mr collier brought in with him some samples of the oil and it certainly appears to be the pure quill he also oata obtained 1 ned some very fine photographs of that region which are extremely interesting from charles goodman the scenic photographer of bluff city quite a number of prominent salt lakers bakeis are interested in these oil fields san francisco people also have holdings there and so have de denver nver and los angeles capitalists ita lists and it is believed there will be a great deal of activity there if not a genuine oil boom during the present year |
