| Show CLARA consolidated BIG MINE much activity in copper country around swansea smelter of clara company nears completion special correspondence swansea via bouse ariz riz feb 10 development of the bill williams fork copper country lying twenty five miles north of bouse in yuma county has demonstrated that this section has an equal importance in the great copper fields of the territory w with ith bisbee and prescott and results being obtained at the most active center in this field which is swansea bids fair to add materially teri ally to the copper output of arizona like many highly mineralized centers of the southwest until capital entered the field in sufficient quantities to guarantee the successful accomplishment of the ends sought mining hore here was a prohibitive undertaking despite this fact several properties underwent considerable development only to cease when the reward was almost in sight it was not until the clara consolidated was floated and backed by unlimited capital that anything like successful mining was accomplished complis hed though desultory shipments were made from several small properties by prospectors who had plenty of time for ore sorting and to whom a few thousand dollars was a big reward for the labor expended with the claras operations the foundation has been laid for extensive mining not only in the consolidated but at several other known rich lich properties including the planet with its tons of bessemer iron ore and large copper deposits mccracken rawhide and others to wage successful conquest in this field a heavy outlay of capital has been necessary the outlook for this expenditure is even better than had been hoped by the most on an outlay of less than approximately has been developed in ore with workings that are as yet considered merely prospective this has been accomplished principally on one property the swansea mine which is the base of operations for the consolidated and where a supply station store and necessary camp equipment has been erected the smelter being erected at this point will have sufficient ore from the swansea to maintain a regular output of tons of ore per day A thirty five ton converter plant has been ordered installed at the smelter and when the plant is CO completed ap plated it will be the mos most complete and economical in the country the converters are to be fed by gravity while slag from the furnaces will pass away in the same manner first going through boilers specially invented by george mitchell for this purpose on leaving the b boilers the slag will be in granulated form the product of the swansea mine will reach the smelter by direct tram from the shaft the plant being located at a point lower than the entrance to the mine ore will be handled but once to the bins and traveling ng cranes such as are used in most smelters shelters sm elters for conveying slag to the dump will be done away with this makes it possible to secure big profits from 2 per cent ore on the copper product and the gold content being from 5 to 12 per ton insures an excellent return seven miles of narrow gauge railroad is provided for to connect the clara and morro mines with the smelter the new spur from bouse to swansea will tap the planet and other properties and they will market their product at swansea |
