Show RAILROAD FOR SALMON COUNTRY recorder salmon city ida within the past few days R W mcbride has demonstrated that the citizens and the business interests of salmon are not only in earnest but are arc bound to have a railroad if they have to build it in a few days mr mcbride went out among the business men and realty holders and secured subscriptions to the amount of sixty thousand dollars from the manner in which the people have signed up it is evident that a hundred or more thousand dollars will be subscribed in the county for this enterprise the scheme is to build an electric line from here to idaho falls it is estimated that the line will cost approximately one million and a power plant on the salmon elvei for the motive power at this end will cost half as much more so it is estimated that the line will cost about one and a half million dollars the projected road will be an air line from here to idaho falls there is no work on the line which would require over a one per cent grade the distance is estimated at one hundred and sixty miles the projected line would follow the lemhi leahi river to its source an easy water grade the line would then be practically at the top of the summit from there to idaho falls it is an easy down grade all the way with very easy of construction between that point and salmon the line would tap the junction gilmore and spying spring mountain mining minine districts mr mcbride has carefully gone over the matter of probable tonnage be tween this point and idaho falls and his investigation vesti gation makes it plain that the road would not only be self supporting as soon as it was in operation but would pay dividends for the first year of its operation sufficient capital has been raised to erect a smelter at spring mountain which will start up the numerous mines in that section as soon as completed it is expected that the smelter will blow in soon after the first of the year if not during the holidays the gilmore property is now lying idle on account of the long haul between the mine aad the railroad the recorder is informed that the gilmore people were recently offered a million and a half for their property a few days ago but wanted three millions the latest out mine adjoining the gilmore property recently made a strike of a lead shoot which is said to be over thirty feet in width the tonnage from those two properties both ways would undoubtedly go a long ways towards A paying the operating expenses of an electric line between here and idaho falls |
