Show o NEW TIRE HAS AMAZING RESISTANCE TO SKIDS A new automobile tire incorporating incor-porating a revolutionary non-skid non-skid tread design engineered to give unusual traction and braking brak-ing effectiveness on slippery roads is announced here by W. D. Petty, wholesale salesman in the Salt Lake district of the B. F. Goodrich Company, tire and rubber manufacturer, whose territory includes this city. Developed after two years of research and testing during which period more than 100 designs de-signs were tried, the new tire is said to be capable of stopping a motor car quicker than any tire ever built, according to Goodrich officials. "M'ore than two years ago it was determined to design an automobile tire to materially reduce re-duce the hazards of skidding," Mr. Petty said. "Insurance company statistics annually show an increase in injuries land deaths resulting from automobile skidding accidents and a large number of these accidents were caused, not by skidding in the sense of cars swaying out of control, but by sheer inability to stop quickly enough when it was Imperative to do so. "One of the first things discovered dis-covered was the fact that most tread designs, although thousands thous-ands of them ure patented, had no scientific basis from the standpoint of resisting skidding, so all previous opinions of what tire should look like were discarded dis-carded and it was determined to Judge instead how tires would perform under all conditions of service," Mr. Petty said. The new non-skid tire was road tested for 380,000 miles by the company and given exhaustive exhaus-tive independent testa by Pittsburgh Pitts-burgh Testing Laboratory, Goodrich Good-rich said. In 1933 Goodrich introduced a special ply construction for tires to resist tire blowouts at high speeds. |
