Show KEEP POLITICAL BOSSES HANDS OFF j Political bosses of the state are doing plenty of maneu- j vering in an attempt to arrive at some plan which will defeat de-feat the direct primary election law, particularly the runoff portion of it. In the runoff section of the direct primary election law lies the strength of the people, the opportunity to lift the burden of machine politics from their shoulders and place the responsibility of selection of lawmaking and administering officials where it belongs With the voters. The runoff portion por-tion of the direct primary election system is dynamite to the machine politicians, it threatens to blow their manipulative power into kingdom come. It is being very generally reported that there is strong possibility of a special session of the legislature being called to correct some of the alleged imperfections in the measure which make it difficult to carry on because of the short period of time between the regular primary and the runoff elections. If such a session is called the political bosses of the state must not be permitted to disrupt the basic purposes pur-poses of ttie measure, elimination of the convention system and all similar influence. , The legislature must, if a special session is called, confine con-fine its operations to correcting the mechanical imperfections imperfec-tions of the law and the hands of the political bosses must be kept from securing a strangle hold on the measure. The people of Utah DEMAND that the basic principles of the direct primary election law be let alone. The voters of the state have waited long enough for a direct primary law and now that they have it they will FIGHT to maintain the qualities of such a measure which simply places the power of government more directly in the hands of those to whom that power belongs the PEOPLE |
