t I Q 0 8 CITY AUDITOR Q i 0 0 A Ai Q i NOT PERMITTED 0 0 0 0 o 0 TO MAKE AK A FINANCIAL 8 0 0 ST A 0 9 0 6 0 0 0 The city council of Salt Lake met last night and adjourned 0 0 0 after a few warrants on o the bankrupt general g fund had been au authorized authorized d There was no financial statement as had been promised Q 0 and no n intimation inti on that one would ever be forthcoming The de delectable Q i majority in m control affected an unconcern unconcern they did not I feel f el as they t ey hastened through the necessary business busin ess of the ses session 0 Q sion To those who visited the council in the of hear hearing hearing Q ing a statement of the finances as the failure of p 0 Q the th auditor and finance committee came as a shock It was no o Q 0 surprise ise however to some so e in the council chamber Q On the morning of the day on which The Herald printed a 0 statement of the city finances showing the bankrupt condition of I 0 the general fund Chairman Callister of the Republican state com committee committee o n Uee and Chairman Eichnor of the Republican county commit committee 0 I tee held a long consultation with City Auditor Reiser in the lat 10 office The situation was thoroughly canvassed First it was the opinion of the two chairmen that the auditor should an o 0 swear the statement and demonstrate the solvency of the fund 8 This Mr VIr Reiser said was impossible as an effective answer could 2 I I not be made Then it was decided to do nothing and andt to say nothing Mr Ir Reiser was 15 assigned a thinking part He w was s to tomake make no state statement 0 a ament I 4 ment of finances to the council councilor or any one else He e agreed to do o 0 0 this and the two chairmen undertook to prevent nt the council I finance committee from acting They evidently have made good 0 this promise as well as the further understanding that there shall shaU 0 1 be no meeting of the finance committee until after the election 1 n 2
