In the house of commons com-mons Gladstone gave notice that he should introduce five resolutions in effect that England has Just cause of complaint of tho conduct of the porte. Reference ia madn in T-nrrl rwi-,,.'. diBpatch of last September, relating to the Bulgarian massacres, and tho resolutions proceed to declare that until there is a chaogoof conduct and guarantees be given, the porto has no moral or matorid claim to the support sup-port of the British crown; that in tbe midst of complications and with war actually begun the houae earnesllv desires that the influence of England in the councils ot Europe ha employed for tbeefiectual development ol liberty and local self government in the disturbed dis-turbed provinces, and harmonious action among tho European powers, with a tiew of exacting such means o! government from Turkey as are n-cessary for purposes of humanity and justice, for efleclual delensu against intrigue and for security aud peace of the world. Gladstone stated that the resolutions would be submitted submit-ted solely on his own responsibility. Sir Siailord Nurtbcole appointed Monday next for debate oh the resolutions. |
