During the fire a burning wall Jell upon some 1 sheds where the firemen were playing, play-ing, covering several of them with hut bricks several feet deep. The following follow-ing ie a list ol tbe killed and wounded: Killed Michael Barry, head inaahed; Wm. Perry, fireman, body mangled; Kichurd Schonlea, legu broken, s'tull cruBbed; Thomas Hig gins, firemen, struck ou the temple by a brick; A. Beauchainp, jeweler, crushed and limbs broken; George Lynch, assistant foreman of the water wurka, struck by falling wallh, badly maugled; Autoiue Saunders, back brukeu; Pierre Hamil, laborer, head amashed, feet cut off; Joaeph Parker, while aiding to remove tbe cofiina from an undertakers falling adjoining, adjoin-ing, crushed. Total killed nine. Wounded Chief Patton, caugtit in a sbower of red hot brieks, burned, bruised and cut in a Icarful manner; John Livingatcne, fireman, badl mangled, can't recover; John Nolan, burned about head and neck; Cbarles Heddy, fireman, skull fractUioJ, William Ferguson, boaa hose maker. supposed fatally injured; Isrei Bishop, firoman, badly burned; Edward Ed-ward Stalling, fireman, leg and arm broken and burned; Charles Buies, badly injured and burned; Benjamin Harrison, back brokeD; Alfred Holdby, fireman, back hurt and burnt; total wounded ten. Many others were slightly injured. Suspicions are entertained that the fire was the work of an incendiary. Th building was owned by J. Bulwer and valued at $25,000, occupied by the Novelty Co., and Spencer's shoe furnishing factory. Loss to the firms about $18,000, partially insured. |
