A cull ot counties wab made lor the third ballot, bal-lot, General Filzbupb Lee and Win. Terry having been dropped last night, the candidates were Mahone, Daniel, Holliday and Talliferro. The third ballot resulted as follows: Mahone 472, Daniel 43S, Holliday 338. Talli ferro 172, The proceedings were then suspended sus-pended aud tho lriends of tho candi-1 candi-1 dates helda conference. Intense ex-. ex-. citement prevails. General Terry was placed in nomination again. The fourth ballot resulted: Daniel 4S9, ' Mahone 407, Holliday 3jd, Terry : 103. Terry has again been dropped. A resolution was adopted requiring that all nominations be now made, the lowest candidate to be be dropped on each succeeding ballot, and uoi to be renominated. General Talliferro and General Filzhugh Lee were nominated. nomi-nated. Four ballots will decide tbe nomination. On tbe fifth ballot Mahonohad 453, Daniel 421, Holliday 284, Talliferro i 144, Lee 119. Sixth ballot: Mahone 4G7, Daniel 448, Holliday 344, Talliferro 163. The latter has been dropped. Colonel Cameron withdrew tbe name of General Mahone and urged the friends of that gentleman to give their support to Hon. F. W.. M. Hal-liday. Hal-liday. This was received with tremendous tre-mendous cheers, waving of hats aud yelling. The seventh and final ballot resulted, Halliday 852, Daniel oGS, Mahone 1. Tbe chair announced, amid the wildest applause, that Halliday was duly chosen as the nominee of the conservative party of Virginia for the office of governor. A recess whs taken till S o'clock. On reassembling General Jamea A. Walker of Paluski was unanimously nominated for lieutenant governor; Raleigh T. Daniel, the present incumbent, was renominated " for attorney genera! without opposition. The platform waa adopted recognizing the obligation obliga-tion of the public debt, and recommending recom-mending the general asecmbly to endeavor to readjust the Baron in a manner just to creditors and honorable honor-able lo the state. |
