The Journal's Washington Wash-ington epeoial says: On Tuesday next the state of Georgia votes on the question of calling a constitutional convention to frame a new constitution, constitu-tion, on the ground that the present one does not represent the will of the majority of the people, it bemg made under dictation from Washington city, througn military authority. It brands the war as a rebellion, insults (he living and dishonors the patriotic dead; declares that paramount allegiance allegi-ance is due by every Georgian to the national government, while each gov ernment is supreme in its sphere and in perfect harmony. Ben Hill and the whole democratic party favor the change, while the republicans oppose op-pose it. Butler in leaving Washington left a card for publication, regarding the two communications from MacVaigh and John T. Woodbridge, whom he calls MacVaigh's second, whom he axserls was sent by a provost court to prison for smuggling liquor into Norfolk. Nor-folk. Woodbridge addresses Butler aa "Honorable-iiis Ben Butler," heads his letter to "Old Cockeye," and reiterates the spoon story. |
