New York, S The custom bouse commission heard a commission from importers and grocers who recommended, recom-mended, among other things, that the weigher's and gauger's feo be paid only on such articles as are weighed before going abroad; that no fea whatever be charged whatever on export goods, and favored the abolition aboli-tion of the damage allowance only after goods have left the possession ot government. They favored the passage pas-sage by congreesof a new and simple revenue law. A. P. Ketohum, general gen-eral appraiser, opposed the establish ment of entry. Other gentlemen made many suggestions, alter which die commission adjourned sine die. The report will soon be given tu the secretary oi the treasury. |
