Norton convicted last week in the district court for assault with intent in-tent to kill Dr. Bredemeyer is being numerously signed by our best citizens. citi-zens. The particular and circumstances circum-stances of the shooting, which occurred occur-red at Bingham a few months ago, have already been published in these columns. "Uncle Geotge" as he is familiarly known in an unguarded unguard-ed moment, and laboring under a mental excitement, inflicted a flesh wound on the doctor; and for this he was indicted, tried, convicted and sentenced to a term of service in the penitentiary. All through the trial the greatest sympathy was manifested for the prisoner, and while the jury could not under their oatn, acquit they evidently woold gladly hayedone so had it boen possible. The judge, I also, was visibly aflected towards the defendant, aud administrated the lightest sentence for the offence permitted per-mitted by the law. All weie sorry for uncle George, who, they considered, consid-ered, had committed a crime by accident rather than intent. We understand the grand jurors who are in town and the petit jurora who tried the case are among the Bigners of the petition for pardon. It will be presented to Governor Axtell in a day or two, and will doubtless receive favorable consideration. Workingmen's Co-op.
