Show SCHOOLS CLOSING. Quite a number of schools cloac-.l yesterJay, among them the following follow-ing : TWENTIETH WARD. The Twentieth ward school, of which Mr. T. B. Lewis is principal, clostd on Thursday afternoon, the last week havine been spent in examination, ex-amination, in which tha pupils acquitted ac-quitted themselves with credit. Friday morning tbe pupils assembled at the schoolhouse at 8 o'clock, at which time and place the teacher distributed dis-tributed the annual reports of the standing of the pupils to them to be presented to their parents; after which the school went to FuLler'a Hill, a most agreeable place, and spent the day in joy and happineeB, everything being done at tbe Hill by the pro-! prietor to make tbe time pm p'es ' antly, which was highly appreciated. School takes a vacation until the IStb of AugUBt. TWELFTH WARD. This school cloeed yesterday. The closing exerciser consisted of songs, dialogues, recitations and tbe distribution distri-bution of reports. During the exercises, exer-cises, Miss Kate Young was called upon to give a select reading, when (a surprise) Bhe, in behalf of the school, presented Profeesor O. H. Riggs, the principal, with a handsome chromo and an album which con tained the autographa of the senior Btudents of the school, and Miaa Kate A. Miller, assistant, with a pair of beautiful flower cbromos. The pre-, Bentation was made in a very neat speech, and responded to by Mr, Rigga. A good many of tbe patrons and friends of the school were present, with two of the trustees Messrs. Tuo3. Williams and Joshua Midgley who expressed their gratification at the rapid progress of tbe school. The itudenU who Blood first during the term and were most perfect in report are: Mr. T. A. Clawson, MiBB Nellie Hardy (wbo read the valedictory at close of school), Mr. Seldon Olaweon, Miss Sarah Hawkins and Miss Lizzie Brooka. EIGHTEENTH WARD. The closing exorcises of the Eighteenth Eight-eenth district school also took place yesterday, tbejprincipal, Mies Duncan, conducting, supported by her assistant, Miei Geniivieve Whitney. There were present a number of the friends and relations ol the scholars, and the whole passed off in a most satisfactory manner, not only reflecting credit on the pupils, all of whom are email, but also on the teachers. - SALT LAKE ACADEMY. Alter a moot successful season thia institution closed yesterday afternoon for the summer season, The examinations exami-nations have been going on for two daya past and the results have been gratifying to the parenta of the pupils and the teachers. The progress of thia institution, with tbe others of a like character, haa been marked and rapid, and j idling by past results will be even more successful in the season forthcoming. Professor Benner is1 principal, with Professor J. D. 8. Riggs and Miaa Adama assistant!. |
