Show rnovo. UTAH COUNTY FAIR. The Utah county branch of the" I Deseret Agricultural and Manufacturing Manu-facturing aociety have it in contemplation contempla-tion and discussion to hold a fair this year in Provo. It is the most central point of the county, and convenient for all. The matter was mooted last Saturday at a large meeting of several parsons from the several cities and districts of tbe ecunty, and a lively interest was manifested. The persons present entered iu to the discuision of the subject with spirit and gusto, and they conoluded that an extra eflurt nijst e made to enlist the farmers and meobauicsof the country in the enterprise. It was considered , kb highly neoesaary to the banelit of tho ciiizena. the stimulus ol antnrnrizR and competition, and all were determined de-termined to have it a rich suoceiis. Thia county cannot be surpassed for its richness of soil, the abilities of its mechanics, and the superiority of its manufactures, in various branches of art. Its fruit, vegetables and cresls; its clo'.hsi furniture, wagona, jewelry and silver ware, its fiue bred horses, cattle nnd other animals, and its mineral pro duotious, are all of a high standard; which, with a due incitement to com pletion and display, will reflect credit on the iudustry, ability and progress of its citizens. Not the least interesting interest-ing will be the handiwork and in-Igenuity in-Igenuity of the dear ladies, who are. not only advanced in the neceauary and useful, but also in the refined and ornamental. With the impetus given at the meeting reforred to. we feel assured thai a fair will be held, and , that it will be decidedly buccossIuI. Efficient perBona were appointed in every settlement to enlist the sympathy of all others, and to obtain assistance necessary to make tbe grounds commodious. A suitable place is to be obtained Oud sheds and Becure buildings erected, and the various parties are to report at another meeting to be held on the first Saturday in April. The civil and ecclesiastioal authorities of tbe county give it their best and heartiest words and approval, and it must come booming into existence, to continue in active operations hereafter. Mr. Joseph Sawyer, the prehident of tbe society, who has been agitating tbe question for months, is lull of good spirits and life at the prospect, with the cheering assurance and action of the aforesaid authorities. The secretary, secre-tary, Father Graves, is always full of the subject and on hand far anything that way, and Mr. Esau Wride, the treasurer, is active and roady to receive, re-ceive, disburse and account for all moneys and efiecta coming into his care. We wish it life and success. BAIL BOADB. The citizens of Provo and vicinity are iu high glee at the report of two narrcw-gu.ge railroads finding their terraii.ui or depots here tbia year. There is every pro?pot that the railroad rail-road from the Pieasant Valley coal btdd will be laid at lead to Provo. A Bhort time since a prty of surveyors were eying and measuring thinga to that inteui, aud the work of grading is expected to extend to this place in the early "apring-timo of the year.' ' Another railroad from Echo canon through tbe Provo valley, down eur romantic Provo canon, is talked of, and taken altogether prospects for a good time look bright. PROVO FACTORY. These valuable works are olosed down for tbe present for the want of wool, by wbiek hundreds of poor persons are employed; but it is expected ex-pected that in a irw months tbe whizzing, burri, clackiDg and moving mov-ing of the maohmey will again be in full eperation Like a thing of lifo. This factory has turned out great quantities of various kinds of woolen fabrics. The cloths, flannels, shawls, etc., etc., are of a high order of style,' texture, designa and manufacture, and in abundance. There is talk of several changos and improvements in and around the works which will be for the good of tbe workpeople and community, and the owners of the valuable enterprize. FIflH. The boys are beginning to hook the finny tribe from tbe stream and watercourses of tbe city, and fine trout are seen sporting about and looking for hooks. EDUCATION. The several academies and schools throughout the county are in active operation, and full of students. Young people, even of ripar years, are embracing the opportunities opened to acquire the rudiments and progressive Biudies of education. Tbe B. Y, academy ia well patronized with pupils from this and adjacent counties. The district schools are full, and never before has as great interest beeu felt in such matters aa at the present. THE PEOPLE'S PAPER, More and more is the Salt Lake Herald sought after and read for local, domestic, foreign and political news. The people feel that it is their paper, and its leaders on the important questions ques-tions of the day, of home and abroad, are looked upon as carefully written, and sound. No bosh oi sensation, nor sniveling, lying or cringing, but manly, bold, far-Beeing and outspoken. out-spoken. We have bad a rich treat from Prof. E. C Taylor, the boss wiz ard, who ia a genial gentleman, and an expert in his profession, bonest and reliable in all he promises, We expect him again this weak. Next we had and then hadn't Phillip and bis Leotard, who was glad to get away between two days. Al. Sawlelle and his company gave us a good entertainment and merited a hearty welcome back if tbey visit us again. On Friday and Saturday we had a musical soiree by a Salt Lake company, com-pany, all residents of your city, and cultured amateurs, except Professor Kennicott, who is a host in himself in his profession.
