Show Bear River Valley. j From Mr. S. W. Richards, who haB1 just come down to the city from the Bear river valley country, we learn, a few particulars concerning that section. Mr. R. has been spending the winter up there and speaks favorably of the whole region. The settlers in the neighborhood of Smith's fork have lately been favored with a posiodice and weekly mail service. The county officers chetr fully ccoperate to benefit and encourage en-courage those locating there. A number of parties from this city and vicinity are making comfortable homes, inspired by the experience of the pabt winter, which has been very mild and favorable lor out - door work anJ for stock u on the range, much of which haB wintered without being fed. The river bottoms, enriched by the overflow of the Bear, afford a most luxuriant growth of fine grasses, while the foothills are covered with a heavy coating of bunch grass, which combine to render the region an inviting one for ranching ptarposea. The soil in moat localities upon the streams and tributaries of the main river is all that could be desired for agricultural purposes. The situation of the valley, being about twenty miles east ef the thriving settltments around Bear lake, and upon the direct road of the overland travel, gives to it superior advantages for settlers. Wood and coal abound in Ibe vicinity and are easy of access. Vast herds of Block and tens of thousands of sheep are driven over the road, to the eastern east-ern markets. - Fish and , wild fowls are abundant, and large game abound in the winter in the low bills, afford-ing afford-ing sport and pleasure with which to spice the labor and toil of a quiet aud comparatively independent life. The construction of a railroad from Evanston down the valley, already promised by some of the directors of the Union Paoifio railroad, will aid in making available an almost fabulous extent of coal and timber country, lying on the east of the river, and in the development of which capital is already being expended, and labor employed. |
