The amendment amend-ment of tho bouse to the bill granting a pension to General James Shields so ; as to increase his pension from tidy dollars to $100 a month, was, on motion of Sargent, referred. At the conclusion of the morning business consideration was resumed of the bill to extend the time fur the construction and completion of the Northern Pacific railroad. On motion of Edmunds, tho words "having due regard for the rights of said company," were Btricken out of the last section. The senate agreed to the amendment amend-ment by Bailey, that when the lauds granted to the company Bhall have been surveyed and the company have become entitled to a patent for the same, they shall be subject to taxation taxa-tion by the state or territory. Christiaocy moved that the rate for mail transportation shall be the same , as in Iowa, Kansas and Minnesota. 1 Agreed to. Kernan's amendment that tho issue of bonds to aid in the construction construc-tion of the road shall require a two-ttmd two-ttmd affirmation vote or the written consent of the holders of not leds than two thirds of the entire preferred stock, was agreed to. Eaton moved to amend so aa to provide that the consent of the state of Oregon should be first obtained to construct the roads around the cascades of the Columbia river. Agreed to. Christiancy moved to amend so as to provide that nothing in the act I should be construed as recognizing1 !the existence of the Portland, South Pass aud Salt Lake railroad com pany, or any riebt of said company outside of Oregon.
