Show Theatre. There was an appreciative audi-, audi-, cuco at tho theatro last night to witness wit-ness the performance, for tho first time in this city, of Augustine Daly's translation of the famous Parisian comedy, entitled "Alixe," which had a run of 200 nights at the Fifth Avenue theatre, New York. Miss Dickie Lingard porsouated the very 1 difficult role of Alixe with extraordin-I extraordin-I ary efl'yct, impressing her audience that she had given the character moro than ordinary study, Mr. Horace Lingard was exceedingly happy in his conception of the Duke De Marandol; John C. Graham as 1 the happily married Marquis Ccser-auue, Ccser-auue, allbrdod immense amusement by hii happy wit and drolleries. In the part of Madame Vallory, Miss Joan Clara Walters made some very telling bits and exhibited a wonderful wonder-ful adaptability of talent. Both Miss Hat tie Roche and Miss Del lie Claw-son Claw-son ore deserving of enconium, the former in the part of the Marqueae Ceseranne and the latter as Lucienne. The entertainment concluded with a song by Mr. Horace Lingard in broken English by a French tleyatUt which was loudly applauded. . This evening the great comedy '"Charity" will be repeated, Miss Dickie Lingard sustaining the character charac-ter of Ruth Tredgett and Horace Lingard that of Mr. Fitzpartmgton, supported by the full strength of the company. The play will be followed by a song from Mr. Howard Paul entitled "When George the Third was King;" after which Mr. Lingard will give his inimitable sketches. As the engagement of these distinguished dis-tinguished artistes will close to-morrow night, we recommend those of our citizens who desire to witness them to take advantage of the last two opportunities that will occur, viz: to-night and to-morrow. |
