Show The Beecher Trial. New York, 4. In the Beecher case to-day, Evarts continued the cross-oxaraination of Tilton. The principal points referred to beirig hie free-love dootrines, as shown in his published articles, "Love, Marriage and divorce," and others which were put in evidence. There wae a long discussion between be-tween the counsel as to the admission admis-sion of articles from the Golden Age which were not written or expressly sanctioned by Tilton. The court ruled that only Buch articles as were written by him or sanctioned by him could be admitted. Among the articles sought to be introduced was one which Tilton disavowed acknowledge ac-knowledge of until after its publication, publica-tion, and which he did not sanction, which ho said was written by a lady member of Plymouth church. , A recess re-cess was taken. |
