Show Bad Sidswalks. Whose business is it to look after the sidewalks of our city? When the streets are out of repair we can "go for" tho street supervisor and the city fathers, but bow about the sidewalks? We believe it is the business bus-iness of property owners to keep the foot paths in front of their property in repair, so that they are passable for pedestrians, but suppose they do not do it, is there any way oi foroing them; and if so whose business is it? We beg to call the attentiou of the proper official, if there be such, to the deplorable state of the walk on the west side Qf Chestnut street, fropi the corner of South Temple for a block running north. The sidewalk has never been properly graded, and as a consequence tho water Irom the sec has run over it and gouged it out in places, and covered it with gravel in others, so that it ia almost impassable. impas-sable. Jt is poqr encouragement to some people to make improvements, and, grade and fix up their water ditches and Bidewalks, when their neighbors are permitted, year after year, to utterly neglect their duty in this respect. If there is no ordinance making provision for this matter, it is high time the City Council took the subject under consideration. |
