Show ! A Washington correspondent of ( the New York World writing on the 'Jth instant, gives an estimate of the political division of the next Huie of Ueprf scntativprt. Including Missouri and excluding Louisiana, the Southern South-ern St.tU-ji will have, he think-, eighty 1 Democratic representative, and the ! North ."eventy-six, making a total of l."0, or eight more than a majority. In this estimate he claims ten lJonio-oerats lJonio-oerats from Ohio, while thirteen have been elected, and six from Induna, while eight have been chosen. On the other band he puts Iowa down fur three opposition members, while one only appears to liav been elected, making a net gain ol two members over his estimate in these three States. If tho States to vote in November come up to the mark as well as the October Oc-tober States have done the opposition will find itself, by the opening of the next Congress in a position lo veto all obnoxious partisan legislation, and to exercise a weighty influence on the politics of the country. The next house will also have the counting ol the Presidential vote, a point of great importance. |
