Show THE FRUIT CROP OF UTAH. The people of this territory have no reason to complain of the crop that is harvested, and the crep not yet fully gathered. Wheat, .oats, rye, barley, broom corn, castor beans, hemp and cotton have been good, or are now lookin; promising. The crops iu small grains are very large, with all kinds full and plump. The corn grown in the territory looks very good and may be calculated upon for a good yield. Potatoes, cabbage, beets, turnips and all root crops are finer than we ever 3aw in the states east. Egg plant, tomatoes, vegetables, vege-tables, are unequalled. When you come to fruit, Utah can discount even California, in beauty, flavor and the surety of a crop every year. We saw the most splenpid Winesap, Ben. Davis, Willow Twigs, Janetons and a hundred others, and the fruit well defined in size, color and character. Not a speck or blemish, but clear, perfect and beautiful. There are a great many fine budded peaches in Utah, but the greater portion are seedlings aud quite inferior. Pears are abundant and equ:l to the best we see in California, Cali-fornia, and of much belter flavor. Plums, the largest and most perfect we ever saw anywhere. Green Gage, Yellow Egg, Jefferson, Washington, Coe's and almost every other American Ameri-can variety, including the Damsons, are here iu plenty. One bushel of Green Gages selling for fifty cents. One bushel of any kind grown in tho territory brings only fifty cents. We have seen hundreds of bushels in Salt Lake City in a single day, and no buyers at a renumeiative price to be found. Quinces are quite plenty and sell very low. Grapes are abundant, but command better prices. We saw delicions Delawares great compact bunches, and berries a little larger than those grown with u.s selling at fifteen cents a pound. Concords arc very fine and bring good prices. Catawbas, lsabellas.and Clintons arc also in the market. Allen's Hybrid, Taylor's Bullitt and a white gnipo from California, are also sceu. Taken all together the Mormon people have no cause for complaint in the bounty of nature to them for the year lc"4. Cohnan's L'ttrul horhl. |
