Show Contempt Wednesday morning's train to the EAst carried away Warren Hussey, ! Eiq., and vacated a seat in the grand jury room, the gentleman being a member of that body. It is understood under-stood that Mr. H. wns called away on urgent business, and that he applied ap-plied to the court to be excused, but his request being refused by his honor. Judge McKean, he disregarded the mandate of the law and took chances on being punished for contempt. Yesterday the grand jury presented in court a memorial reciting that Mr. Hussey was guilty of contempt in going away, and asking the court to exercise leniency in the punishment of the gentleman. Mr. Hussey has gone to New York,' and how long he will be absent is not known, but when he returns he may expect his ears to be judicially boxed, as the ring, of which Judge McKean is a shining light, is sorely displeased with Mr. H. on account of the honesty hon-esty he exhibited in answering certain cer-tain questions touching his competency compe-tency to serve on the jury. |
