Show , RICH COLO DISCOVERIES. I ' ' Soveral letters from Cayenne (French ! Guyana) confirm the lecent discovery of new gold mines in this colony. ! The working of these mines is rep-Ire-ented as being easy, and extremeiy ; cheap. A number of placers which i have been conceded by au official deed to several miners by Colonel J Loubere, the governor of French j Guyana, yield about 4,000 grammes ot pure gold every month, that is to ' say over $20,000, or over $240,000 an-I an-I nually a nice yield for each placer ! A tremendous cold feevr is now raging among the French colonists. , Many officials, having resigned their foHices. are engaged in prospecting. ; Unfortunately skilful miners are not I to be found in this country to work j these rich plactrs. f Governor Loubere will soon leave for France to expose to the govern- . ment the true s'ate ol affairs there and to induce a large intlux of emigration emi-gration into this colony. This news is official and perfectly reliable, and not Yankee humbug as is the case in so many instances in America. Skil ul California miners will certainly find m French Guyana an immense field of exploration and, : if temperate will make a handsome fortune; but no one should veutine there fiom the temperate zones, without making himself acquainted with the climate and its dangers to health, from the testimony of some ' practical man who has visited that country. It has been stated in the Hkuai.d that a gentleman who recently arrived in this eity from Cayenne was almost, the subject of a miracle, his obituary record having been printed, so near was he to death door. Perhaps he might inform in-form intending emigrants how the land lies in th,it region. - L. A. B. |
