General Scofield, commanding the division of tlie Pacific, Paci-fic, says: '".'ince my last report satis-factory satis-factory progress toward the final settlement set-tlement of the Indian question, so far as it depends on military operations has been made. Under the wise and vigorous administration of General Crook the Apache: who obstinately refused to submit neoersary restrictions restric-tions have been hunted down and k:i!ed, and General Crook thinks if tlie Indians of various reservations in Arizona are now properly managed, kpt to work, furn"u.hed with seeds' and impiinients, and their present interest in agriculture and stock rai-1 ing encouraged, no further trouble need be expected, and they will gradually grad-ually become self-supporting. |
